Devil’s Den: The Square and Future
Deal
The very intriguing crop SQUARE at Devil’s Den, nr Fyfield,
Wiltshire reported August 12 grabbed my attention as something I
must further investigate, if only because it reminded me immediately
of a dream I had seven years ago. The fact that it may be a hoax is
not relevant, since the meaning is both available and useful.
The primary form within which the unfolding of this crop formation
occurs is the square, symbol of Earth as opposed to Heaven or the
created universe as opposed to the Creator. It symbolizes stability
and, generally, the status quo as opposed to movement and change.
The square in every day life is emblematic of down-to-earth honesty
and truth, as is demonstrated in the sayings: foursquare, square
deal, square shooter, on the square, etc., implying trustworthiness.
So in the case of the crop square at Devil’s Den, we are being told
that within solid material reality, Earth, and in our perceived
notion of matter, there is something going on.
The five semi-formed cubes (or what I call teeth because of my dream
association) in the formation could be representative of humanity in
transition. Since five stands for the centre, and harmony between
the principles of Heaven (2) and the Earth Mother (3), as well as
being a symbol of the human being, perhaps this is a diagram of how
Humanity becomes more conscious of its role in the workings of the
Universe. Five “also stands for the phenomenal world in its
entirety--the five senses and the forms of matter amenable to
sense-perception.” (Chevalier 385)

superimposed on the four square reality
Enter the wonderful zigzag design across the middle of the square
dividing two very different textured spaces. The zigzag is an
ancient symbol for water and, doubled, it is known as the symbol for
the zodiac sign, Aquarius, which is what is significant for us in
this formation. This common design is also used these days as a
symbol for “the idea of heat, energy, vitality, and movement, the
archetypal sign for lightning or electricity.” (Nozedar xvii) As
opposed to the softened wavy line of the serpent symbol, the sharp
lines and edges of the zigzag imply danger related to that energy.
The idea of resistance also comes into play here, as the zigzag is a
sign for resistance in electrical contexts.

electrical signage
Both depict energy in matter, matter as energy.
While staring at the design, I thought of how this might be some
kind of diagram depicting movement on Earth such as an earthquake.
When I researched this idea, I found that the phenomenon called the
Love Wave (web.ics.purdue.edu)
is the surface activity of a wave emitted by an originating shock
beneath the Earth’s surface. It is essentially the measurable and
sensed effect of an earthquake on land above.
So far we have within the stability of the earth and matter (the
square), some kind of energy (the zigzag), maybe as powerful as an
earthquake, which seems to cut through space and matter to then
divide the design into two different spaces. In terms of sequence of
events, one would probably begin with the standing crop that is
already there and move through the electrical process of the
zigzag to come to the now horizontal crop that, from a distance,
looks like a very soft, gentle, wavy space of matter. The lines of
the laid crop are more like an organic wave than the sharp angled
zigzag, and the whole seems as one large blanket or fabric.
What I perceive in this amazing formation is a statement about the
fact that we as material beings, and all of the material creation we
live in, are about to go through a major change in state of
substance. It might feel like we have been hit by lightning, or that
our world has been shaken to its core, but in fact the square
remains and the name of the wave (albeit named for the scientist who
discovered it) is LOVE. This is the impact of the coming of the Age
of Aquarius, and the return of the Great Serpent Quetzalcoatl/Kukulkan.
This is the extent to which we will be transformed, not destroyed.
This crop square gives us a peek at what may take place within our
life, our bodies, and the world around us.

Quetzalcoatl as the shadow serpent appearing on the pyramid and as
the Rainbow Serpent.
One of the many visionaries and leaders for this change in Humanity
is José Arguelles in whose book The Mayan Factor: Path Beyond
Technology we are given his glimpse of what it will be to be
human after 13.0.0.0.0 (December 2012). This was written October 6,
1986:
“Then, as if a switch were being thrown, a great voltage will race
through this finally synchronized and integrated circuit called
humanity. The Earth itself will be illumined. A current charging
both poles will race across the skies, connecting the polar auroras
in a single brilliant flash. Like an iridescent rainbow, this
circumpolar energy uniting the planetary antipodes will be
instantaneously understood as the external projection of the
unification of the collective mind of humanity. In that moment of
understanding, we shall be collectively projected into an
evolutionary domain that is presently inconceivable.
And yet, we shall know. Like infants in a vast new playground, we
shall retain the highest and most exalted vision. Purpose will be
illumined to new levels of spontaneity. Everywhere shall be heard
the Voices of the Galactic Federation: the Elders, the Ancestors,
the great Bodhisattvas and Saints, the Maya returned, our deepest
Selves, the Cosmic Mirror, the Raiment of Space and Time made One.
As one voice the announcement shall be made, heard by one ear: And
now the adventure begins!” (Arguelles 195-96)
Image of Earth surrounded by the consciousness of the New Humanity
The dream that was pulled from my memory by this crop formation was
dramatic, yet not quite so much as the description above. Once told,
you can see why I associated the formation at Devil’s Den and this
dream:
October 13, 2005
I had knit the bottom part of a sweater using light mauve
yarn, and was looking for some kind of tool to cut or change it to a
ribbed edge. I kept asking about where to
get a tool I could use. Then an older Chinese man took the
knitting and took the tool which was a tall box with a slot. He
disassembled the box. I noticed a blade was part of it.
He sort of waved the knitting around a bit in the bin part of
the box. When he took it out, it was all evenly unravelled or
fringed–a very light, thick, soft fabric–every fibre exposed yet
adhering to make a beautiful light yet substantial fabric.
The teacher would not tell of the blade because it can be very
dangerous to use.
A
related synchronistic event was that a group called the Cardigans
had an album called Super Extra Gravity at the time. This made me
associate the dream with the ideas of the Cosmos, the Galaxy and
Earth etc. The zigzag in the formation could be the blade in the
dream, and it is taken away by an Elder.
Although not exactly like the metal blade, the zigzag at Devil’s Den
was enough to trigger the memory of the dream about the
transformation of matter.
The
danger is taken away in the dream, and is named LOVE in the
formation. The resulting fringed fabric in the dream is described
just as I felt about the laid crop in the formation: substantial,
yet light and soft, each element apparent but also intrinsically
woven into the whole. The tall box with the slot made me think of
the Central Core of our Galaxy which is the origin and instigator of
the changes we are experiencing in these times. I do note that the
change I sought to make was not effected, but it was up to the
Powers that be to effect such a change. It was out of my hands so to
speak. In the same way, resistance would be dangerous for undergoing
the process described in the Devil’s Den formation. The
transformation requires, in a way, an active surrender to the
workings and the will of the Universe.
As
individuals and as a collective, we human beings are headed for
wonderful things and all we need do is have faith in the honest to
goodness square deal the Hand of Destiny is offering us.

Addendum to “Square and Future
Deal”
It just came to me today after finishing the essay that the message
for Devil’s Den in short is:
Allow the energies that are activating and changing our material
life and the 3D world, flow. Allow the energy to be conducted
through you just as water conducts electricity so well. Be like the
water bearer, Aquarius and let it flow. That is the zigzag message
in a nutshell: the transformative energy coming to us is best
handled by allowing it to flow. A relaxed body and mind are most
conducive to flow, as is peacefulness, kindness, sharing, community
and honest communication. Do not worry if you do not understand what
is going on as things are changing, breaking down or newly
appearing. The most effective way to cope and benefit from these
energies is to trust, remain hopeful, peaceful, and open in the
heart. This is how to survive and evolve within the present worldly
difficulties that could be referred to as the Devil’s Den.
