Once again, the connector boys, found themselves travelling to, what most of you already know, I call ‘The Sanctuary’ for the Crop Circles. But this time, quite surprisingly very early, as East Field is renowned for its amazing formations, generally at the height of the recent crop circle seasons. In fact, after a little research, we have discovered that this formation in 2000, is the earliest to have appeared in East Field, which is quite historic.

It is situated further over towards the Alton Priors end of East Field, which is the Barley section of this enormous field this year, which is almost 3 quarters of a mile long. The formation itself, has overtones from previous seasons, as we have likened it to the formation at Upavon from last year, and in some ways, The Escher formation at Allington Down, also from 1999. It would appear, that once again, the three dimensional shapes will be a major theme for 2000. We have already witnessed two, the first at Wrotham in Kent, the very nice Torus design, and of course this one at East Field.

It overall design, includes heavily the equilateral triangle, which is made up of a series of triangles, diminishing towards the centre. It would seem, that the sections of standing crop around the inner pattern, is an exercise in showing how a three dimensional object, can look in one dimension. This was also the case for the Escher formation from last year, by using multiple directional lays of crop, to differentiate the light and shade of what is obviously designed to be made into a three dimensional object. From the aerial shots, you will be amazed, I’m sure, of the 3D effect!

Pointing just off from north, the major pattern is a five pointed star, but on the flattened part of each individual section, you can easily notice the directional lays are for the folded sections on a three dimensional plane. All of the inner flattened parts, were flowing in three directions, but within the upper left hand section, there was a very nice starburst centre, which has become more frequent, with the late nineties designs.

Overall, a very well executed formation, in a location, which has, and always will impress, and inspire. We await an evolution on this theme.

THE EAST FIELD PERSPECTIVE
By Steve Alexander & Karen Douglas

"Even though the light was dim and fading, this formation was a joy. Standing here we had a compelling view of Adam’s grave longbarrow and the thick dark clouds appearing from beyond its summit. The formation gently rose before us on a slope in the field even though it was barely 24 hours old the barley was beginning to recover."

A Star shaped formation approximately 200 feet in diameter in Barley,

Have you heard about the formation in the East Field, Alton Barnes? You have
not got it up on the Connector yet. It is in the barley section of the field.

I have only seen it from the hill side, but it looks like a circle with a
series of triangular segments in it.
