I met with the farmer later today who gave me expressed permission to go in and take photos. He said that he didn't want people to go in as the crop was still harvestable due to it's minimal lay features. He said if he found people disregarding this request to keep out he would go ahead and cut it out which was a kind concession to  delay on his part so we should respect that wish. It can still be viewed well from the air obviously.

This barley CC measures about 280ft wide approx. in my estimation. The lay as stated is quite minimal; I tend to describe this as 'considerate' lay. It's almost as if the CC Makers don't wish to do more damage than they need...especially in this political 'climate'. The lay is consistently inconsistent as can be seen from the pictures, in other words there is absolutely no evidence of repetition in it's construction. Sometimes this 'untidy' look is necessary on the ground to achieve texture in the design. There were no really outstanding features apart from the ribbed subtleties in the centrally laid area. For me the most intriguing feature would be the fact this CC is laid upon a concave topography.  There were biophysical anomalies in terms of bent nodes but they weren't that pronounced.

PHASE 2

Walking towards and about 100ft. from the CC I encountered a single 'grapeshot' or 'greeting tuft' about 4ft. wide just to the right of tramline, as seen in photo.  I thought to myself ..."The Makers seemed to know which tramline I was going to use." That's how it felt anyway..

Qualities of lay, being minimal and varied, equalled those of Phase1. Still standing and laid down crop, side by side, a feature of this CC.  Again bent nodes throughout but not pronounced. A dramatic feel on visit as you can see from the pictures the weather was rather stormy.
