After getting my bearings from the Avebury Henge, I
ventured into the 6ft tall maize field at Avebury, to investigate
reports of the possible new event. Fortunately it was close to the
corner of the field, so it did not take very long to find what appeared
to be a single circle, measuring about 50ft in diameter. My first
thought was that the circle looked quite old, based on observing a lot
of recovering plants. The layer crop seemed to be almost random in
nature. Closer inspection showed about 50% of the plants had been
snapped cleanly over at ground level, whilst the remainder were bent
over smoothly, and showing no signs of applied mechanical pressure.
Although basic, I left this fairly rough looking circle feeling as
though Id witnessed something of importance.
