I just finished my reconstruction of the West Kennett Long
Barrow formation
of 28-06-2007.
It has become a remarkable reconstruction. It seems that many
numbers are
represented in the geometry:
1. One formation, one diagram ;-)
2. Foreground - background: system of squares - circular
surroundings, earth
- heaven; also: two diagonals of the largest square.
3. The three last (smaller) squares have a different basis than
the first
five. See point 5. Also, the triangles above and below the
"doors".
4. The square is the most obvious element of the formation.
5. The five larger squares are based upon regular 10(!)-sided
polygons
(decagons), where the smaller three are just "inscribed circle -
inscribed
square" series.
6. Two times three makes six "doors" in the "walls".
7. Next to most obvious: the tiling pattern on the "floor" is
based on 7.
8. Eight squares in total.
9. ?
10. Most remarkable: basis for the five larger squares (see
diagrams)!
11. My eleventh reconstruction of this season (joke!).
12. Distance between main circle and largest square (between
"heaven" and
"earth") is based on a dodecagon: 12-sided regular polygon.
Also, twelve
small triangles above and below the "doors".
...
24. Number of darker tiles (standing crop).
25. Number of lighter tiles (flattened crop).
49. 7 x 7 tiles in total.
I also tried a more regular development of the squares (based on
dodecagons throughout), but with much worse (unacceptable)
performance. The reconstructed tiling is regular (as can be
concluded from the diagrams), but does not fit very well. I
tried a variant with two different widths, but this gave hardly
any better result and felt very unnatural.
A remarkable formation with a remarkable geometry!
