THE
ELEVATED CROSS AT SILBURY
[file:///J:/www.cropcircle.tv/archives/photogallery/photo21593/real.htm]
This formation, close to Silbury Hill was a great capping to a
rather surprising, but highly welcoming weekend of crop circling.
The location is known as THE HIGHEST DOWNS, a part of the Avebury
landscape, that includes the famous West Kennett Long Barrow, and
numerous Tumuli’s dating back to Avebury itself. It is a place
that has seen numerous formations down through the years, and is
in almost the same position as the
1999
formation.

It can only be described as a cross type design, with similar
characteristics to other formations that have graced this
landscape from previous seasons. A few spring to mind, the
Stingray
from 1998, and
The Queen
from the same year. Obviously created by the same agency, but this
design appears to be far more articulate I felt, and in one of the
best locations in the area. It’s a great advantage point to view
the area, especially later on in the season, when you can on
occasions see numerous crop circles across the landscape.
A very well executed formation, extremely neat on the floor, and
in a variety of Barley I haven’t experienced before. I am sure the
heads of this crop are slightly different in nature, as every time
you place any pressure on the fallen plants they crunch and
crackle, like no other Barley crop I have walked on Within crop
circles. But it is always a pleasure to visit formations in the
best crop of the season. What a shame it doesn’t last.

I must say, this formation provided an opportunity I hadn’t
noticed before, and that is the relationship of the summit of
Silbury to the surrounding hills. The top of Silbury Hill, is only
around 10 feet higher than the position of this formation on the
other side of the A4. The height of Silbury was extremely crucial
I felt, for it to be seen within a particular radius across the
landscape. This must have been some kind ceremonial purpose I
felt, and you could imagine all the fires being seen at certain
advantage points. A very spiritual moment for myself. As soon as I
arrived in the formation, there was a slightly different pitch
within my hearing. Whatever is up on the top of this hill, it was
detectable, but of course the formation itself plays a part, and
Silbury Hill as well. The elevated cross on the Highest Downs will
allow you to experience this within the landscape.
