A SENSE OF THE SACRED FOR THE TORUS

This stretch of land between Picket Hill, and Woodborough hill, is a quiet area, where very few people walk. It is untouched by our twenty first century culture, only the Farmer works this part of the Avebury landscape, obviously with his modern farming methods, but there is certainly something else here, something which this wondrous formation has allowed us to experience. But lets talk about this formation, probably one the best you will see this year.

‘In fact it is a progression from the 1997 design, but this time with masterful execution’

This breathtaking formation is situated high on the hillside between the two hills, with Tawsmead Copse at the bottom of the slope. It is positioned on the crest or brow of the hill itself, and immediately reminded me of the 1997 Torus, just along from this location. In fact it is a progression from the 1997 design, but this time with masterful execution. Just like its simpler cousin in 1997, if you stand on the far side of the formation, facing the vista of South Field in the background, you can not see the other side of the design. It literally slopes away from you, which is quite extraordinary!

The surrounding outer ring was flowing in a clockwise rotation, with the main inner circle also in the same direction.

Within the center of the circle, were two exquisite raised nest centers, positioned directly next to each other. A feature we

are becoming used to seeing from the Circlemakers.

‘I knew instantly, that this was a special place, a location, which has not been hit by the Circlemakers before’

As we walked down the tramlines towards the formation on the slopes of Woodborough, I immediately experienced a very heavy pressure on my forehead. It was like an intense headache, but become more powerful as we approached the formation. I knew instantly, that this was a special place, a location, which has not been hit by the Circlemakers before, but was picked up by myself, and I believe by other people also. The dramatic fast moving clouds, crossing the sky were also adding to the atmosphere at this place.

The shear precision within this formation is quite remarkable. The reason they have positioned this pattern on the brow of the hill, is to enhance the wonderful three dimensional aspect to the design from the air. Really this formation is best viewed from the air, but the pole shots also show a more human level of the geometry. There are 13 rings that make up the inner design, which decrease in size as well as the individual elements as they reach the main central circle. From an aerial photograph, you can watch this formation move and rotate with of your eyes. This is a credit to the precision, but also to the Torus effect, which is so evident in this pattern.

As you walked across South Field, to gain access to this formation, it felt very much like a spiritual journey, almost a pilgrimage, to be enlightened at the end. A very special place indeed, which I am sure many people will also experience, but the formation itself is truly outstanding, and is worthy of its lofty position.
