The surrounding area around the ancient mound of Silbury Hill, has been a hot spot for formations this year. Four very impressive formations have appeared in the shadow of Silbury Hill, which hasn’t been without its own news this year.

If you stand on top of the mound of Silbury Hill, and look south towards West Kennet long barrow, two fields can be seen, which have been used extensively by the phenomenon since the early nineties. It is a case of where do we start? Well, we only have to look back a couple of months to find the Circles of Mary but this field has been used on and off since 1988. Back then, we witnessed an exquisite quintuplet formation, which at that time, was regarded as the best in Wiltshire! Have times changed, because we are now seeing totally different types of formations, which really have no relevance to the designs of the late eighties, early nineties. I guess this latest pattern in the wake of Silbury, is an example of how crop circle seasons have moved on since those heady days.

‘On one particular side of a star pattern, the floor was raised up against one of the walls of a triangular section’ 

This design incorporated six five sided star patterns, with one star with its north facing point, offset in a westerly direction. Many people thought this anomaly was a deliberate attempt to communicate the direction of the next event. In some ways, it wasn’t far off, the North Down formation (which formed on the same night) which was probably the closet event in the same direction, but not quite!

The overall floor pattern was extremely neat, but there were a number of strange details around the formation. On one particular side of a star pattern, the floor was raised

‘There was definitely a very calming atmosphere within this formation’ 

The Silbury Hill formation was placed once again in the vicinity of the Mary ley line, that is supposed to run through Silbury Hill, turn, and run also through West Kennet Long Barrow. We know for sure the three Circles of Mary are directly on the line, but this larger formation, might have been on the fringes. But, sometimes a formation, which is just touching a line, can also cause an atmosphere, very similar to a design that runs directly through a line. This was certainly the case at Silbury, because there was definitely a very calming atmosphere within this formation. I once again monitored people very closely, and everyone walked very slowly, as if they were visiting a church, or an ancient temple. It was the same powerful presence that one feels within a place of worship or on some kind of ancient sacred ground.

There is without a doubt a connection with the sacred, on the individual within crop circles. One couple for instance just stood in one place for ages, just feeling whatever they were experiencing, without saying a word to each other, just complete silence. I thought to myself, that is intuitive understanding, a very powerful connection with the circles and the human mind. The area around Silbury Hill is having this effect on people, and I just hope the Circlemakers carry on creating them in them in the vicinity of this ancient mound.
