HUGE WHEEL DESIGN APPEARS ON THE GENTLE SLOPES OF NORTH DOWN This large field once again on the busy road between Beckhampton and Devizes has seen its second formation since 1998, but a far more impressive design this year! This enormous field in question is also on the notorious A361 between Beckhampton and Devizes. On the night of the 24/25th of July, two huge formations appeared along this road. The first one was the Bishop Cannings (2) formation, but just along the road, about one and half miles towards Beckhampton, we have this one at North Down, a contrasting design to Bishop Cannings, but equally as impressive. In 1998 we had a formation, positioned slightly higher up the hill on North Down, it was a bracelet of circles, linked by a small pathway of crop which linked the entire circles. See 1998 formation below. ‘The Circlemakers are obviously telling us that one style of floor pattern within one formation isn’t all we can produce, we can accommodate all of them, within a hundred foot of crop’ Click on thumbnails to enlarge So what did we actually have at North Down as far as a successful design. The entire central pattern was encompassed by an outer ring, with eleven radiating arcs from the central |
circle. In fact the
circle has an A-Z of floor patterns from the last ten years of crop
circling. The Circlemakers are obviously telling us that one style of
floor pattern within one formation isn’t all we can produce, we can
accommodate all of them, within a hundred foot of crop. Quite
extraordinary to see all the styles of spirals, which include ‘s’,
shapes, as well as nest, centers, and raised bunches. Click on thumbnails to enlarge ‘A number of individuals found the central circle very pleasant, and as I left this design, there was about 10 people fast a sleep within the circle’ The quality of the floor construction was pretty impressive, considering the time of the season this formation appeared in. The crop is in a transition stage, maturing from immature wheat, to a wonderful golden colour, that can at times create rather messy construction. However the central circle was very good, with no evidence of breakage, but the outer pathway wasn’t quite so well laid, but a number of people tend to walk around the design. Click on thumbnail to enlarge A number of individuals found the central circle very pleasant, and as I left this design, there was about 10 people fast a sleep within the circle, as if they were zapped by whatever energies are in these formations. I must say, I wanted to join them, after an exhausting day, under extremely hot conditions. One thing for sure, crop circling is fantastic exercise for the body, as we must have walked about a hundred miles within one season, just from walking to and from formations.
