Ever year, we wait patiently for the first reports to come through, as spring once again returns. But what are our reasons for this, why do we love this pastime, we call crop circling. I feel that question can be answered in many ways, through the eyes, of each one of us involved in this beautiful mystery. I for one, have a feeling of wonderful escapism, and that is something, which was experienced on this tranquil evening at Furze hill.
The fields, which lay along the left and right hand side of the road, which leads towards Lockeridge, coming from Alton Barnes, are watched frequently for any activity. Its very rarely we have a situation were a formation is missed. Well, in 2000 this was the case, but understandably so. The field in question has seen a number of circles down through the years, but when the field is grown with Oil Seed Rape, it makes life very difficult for us croppies! The height of the crop, combined with the size of the formation meant its appearance date (maybe) was a few days before it was spotted, but that’s an approximation. It was an optical illusion, as its very acute angle, could have been seen as just mere tramlines.
On entering the field, we found that the crop itself was shorter than the average Oil Seed Rape field, about 1300mm in height. The small design was positioned about half way up the field, and three tramlines along from the entrance of the field. Our first reaction was one of surprise. The floor pattern on the smaller of the two triangles was not spiralled, but flattened in three directions in unison with its three sides. But the larger two triangles had a floor pattern flowing in one direction up to its apex. The crop along its bottom side, was very rough, as there were many broken stems snapped half way up, and further down. This could be people just walking in, but some of the damage was original.
The smaller triangle had sides. 5.6, 6.5 and 6.2 metres. The larger of the two had sides 8.3 meters at the base, with 14.3 meters and 16.5 along the left and side tramline. It was 14 meters down through the middle, from apex, to base mid point. The width between the two triangles joining was 550mm.
A very unusual set of two triangles which, appeared to be out of place in some way. Perhaps a section of things to come in the future, who knows?

"Monday’s crystal blue skies were dotted with bright silver clouds drifting gracefully like huge ships sailing across the sparkling ocean. There was a dream like quality to the day, slow, gentle and slightly surreal, a perfect day, in fact, for visiting a new formation". |
The Crop Circle Connector has just received some information on a confirmed formation nr Lockeridge. It would appear the formation in question, is located in an Oil Seed Rape field, just passed the ancient Hill Fort of Knapp Hill. This field has seen many crop circles in the past, but this latest design carries on the theme from Cherhill, with a set of triangles. Details are a little sketchy at this time, but a local couple have confirmed the overall diameter to be 49ft, with the triangle around 28ft. A report will be forthcoming very soon, with hopefully images and a ground survey. The entire field is one of the very few old seed rape fields which hasn't been damaged by the inclement weather. Lets hope this is the start of things to come from Wiltshire?

Formation in oilseed-rape between Lockeridge & Alton Barnes, Wiltshire
A formation has arrived in a field of oilseed-rape close to the famous crop circle location of Alton Barnes. We think the glyph is
a couple of days old at the most, arrived possible 13/5/00.
After walking up a very overgrown tramline we found ourselves in a triangle measuring, 49 - 49 - 28 feet. Coming off one corner is a
smaller triangle measuring,21 - 21 - 20 feet. there is some interesting layering but on the most part it is quite simple. For
such a simple formation it had a very big feel factor. we felt ourselves rather fortunate to have visited this one. If you can take
the pollen attack it is well worth a visit.
We will be updating this page with photographs, survey & watercolor ASAP.
