Ever since the year of 1990, we have seen a number of formations that tend to capture people’s imagination, with their spectacular geometry, or just set within a wonderful landscape. This quite extraordinary formation placed on the flat fields at Avebury Trusloe, is probably the most amazing design we will witness in the year 2000.
We arrived at Avebury Trusloe on Saturday afternoon, the very day this formation appeared. It was only a few hours old, but even at this early stage; many people were entering the field to visit it. Thankfully, the Farmer has kindly allowed access to it, and is once again evidence of this transformation of feeling towards the phenomenon, which is sweeping the farming community at the moment.
It took quite a while for us to work out what this design actually represents in terms of its geometry, but the closest, and what appears to be correct interpretation would be a Moiré pool. Something that hasn’t been witnessed within a formation pattern before, this design was quite a surprise, but great excitement emerged from the crop circle community, and from us also.

I have to say words fail me to describe the sheer breathtaking artistry within this formation. It simply is quite amazing, because as you walk around it, you simply just can’t believe what you are seeing. The small pathways weaving in and out of the diamond shapes are so detailed that any report on them would be very confusing for the reader. Anyone, who is not aware of what a Moiré design is, I will briefly try to explain. Basically, the pattern is recognised as a fractal, but Moiré’s are commonly created by the interference of two patterns. If you look through two window screens at an oblique angle you will see different colours, or just notice the surface on a soap bubble. A Moiré creates both of these effects. If you zoom into the formation, the detail disappears, and the pattern changes. But as you zoom out, (as seen from the aerial shots) the formation becomes three dimensional, because of the uprising central section of crop. This is a wonderful effect, and is also evidence that the crop circles are becoming extremely 3D in design, which as I will explain later, makes them incredibly powerful.
What is also so amazing about this formation, is its multiple representation to other meanings to its pattern. We have received many emails mentioning its uncanny resemblance to magnified iron filings, or the magnified field of the earth, with its two poles? Very interesting observations, and yet all of these ideas could be represented within the Avebury Trusloe formation. But what is also very important to understand, is that the formation is circular in design. Something, which is overlooked by the onlooker, but is planted in their memory to be harmonious.

As a photographer, I can sometimes observe people as they walk around formations, so to enhance a picture to produce scale within the photograph. It’s always very important to have people in the shot, because its can sometime draws the eye into the design, and to add either foreground of background interest. But I felt something else was at work, especially within this formation. I noticed on numerous occasions, that people tended to congregate within one of the centres, but not the other. Many people were sitting down chatting, meditating, and becoming quite animated within what I call the South Pole centre. But the north centre, hardly anyone would be there, and if there were, they appeared to be very calm and quiet. This position must have had a more subtle softer feeling, than the other side. In architecture, they call this effect swarming. Basically it is where a people tend to dwell or congregate within a certain part of a building, because it is subconsciously comfortable for them. I felt this was exactly what was happening within the Moiré, because the pattern was magnifying this effect. Another reason could because by possibly a number of ley lines crossing through the formation? This flat area close to Windmill Hill would surely have a number of important lines running through the field. The Moiré is positioned between a known ley centre of Knoll Down, and Windmill hill itself.
An exceptional formation, which has been highly celebrated on The Crop Circle Connector.

If as we think here, the crop formation does represent a magnetic field, it would
be interesting to find out whether it is actually oriented with the real north and south as would be
shown by a magnetic compass on the site?. If it does that would be something else!. regards as ever.

These five photos of the Avebury Trusloe formation that show detail of the remarkable flow pattern of the laid crop. I think that it is
important that these views are available for many folk seem to think that the
formation was constructed down the straight lines. This was patently not the
case, as these photos show.
