Many unusual features have been spotted within the fields, which have been mistaken for the real phenomenon. I was a victim of such a case when I drove with a friend some 210 miles to find what would have been one of the first crop circles to appear in 1991. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the location the circle turned out to be a circular patch within a Rape field, for a cattle trough. A lesson well learnt, but some reports are correct in the assumptions, and maybe The Giants trail is indeed part of the real phenomenon, which was first reported in mid August.

The Crop Circle Connector feels that this particular feature, set high above the Marlborough Downs deserves a report all of its own, a shape so unusual that it could have been part of the Circle Makers work.

The location is still rather sketchy, but this particular Trail, was located on high ground within the Marlborough Downs and was directly next to the Ancient Pilgrim path, The Ridgeway. What was so unusual about this feature was its snaking appearance across its field, which started from the field's entrance, and then meandered across to the other side, and abruptly stopped for no apparent reason.

Maybe someone reading this report could possibly solve what this feature actually is, indeed we are still open minded about its source, it could be possibly be the result some field drainage system. Surely we can rule out the possibility of some kind of Farm animal being responsible, as the trail simply stops halfway across the field.

Another unusual feature, is that the Trail itself is staggered on each side of its walls, creating a mirror effect from one side of the wall to the other, resembling a huge Zip.

A very comical interpretation, but whether this trail was part of the genuine phenomenon we'll never know, the fact that its location was so remote, and its characteristics were extraordinary in nature. The Crop Circle Connector thought it deserved a report within the 1997 Crop Circle Listing.

In all of the years of Crop Circling, I never come across such an unusual Trail, maybe there are Giants of Wiltshire..

Is the attached GIF what's meant in the "Giant's Trail" report by Stuart? I saw at least three examples this year and, as far as I recall, all were in rape. This one was near Litchfield, Hampshire. Cheers,

From the photograph it resembles the Double Helix formation of 1996, with it's snaking meandering pathways, which seem to spread the entire length of the field. Notice how the originator has used a strip of Oil Seed Rape against a line of trees. Was this intentional? John Sayer has stated that he knows of two others in this crop, we'll wait and see if their is a link to all three, and to the "Giant's Trail later on in the summer. This could be the start of a spate of trails across the land, but are they again part of the phenomenon?
