A formation @ Windmill Hill nr Avebury, Reported 18/6/00
(Wheat)
Situated in a field of very immature wheat, close to the ancient
settlement of Windmill Hill is the most stunning optical illusion
the circle makers have yet come up with.
This formation is a very impressive 270ft in diameter and
spans four tramlines.
The scale & scope of the design had us, to say the least rather
baffled. Standing on the ground in this maze of standing and
downed squares & rectangles was, for quite some time
incomprehensible. This is not a formation to be viewed from
ground level. Because the wheat had been brushed down so
gently most of the crop had returned to an almost upright
position very soon after the formation was discovered. When
we arrived on the scene all we could see was a vague and
rough chequer board pattern that had a strange order within
the chaotic downed sections.
What we have here is a square sectioned into various size
chunks of alternating standing and downed crop that give the
effect of stretch and perspective in various directions. The
sides of the internal square measure 200ft in length. This
shape sits uniformly inside the 270ft diameter circle of downed
crop that creates a very imposing crop circle indeed.
Seeing the aerial image of this formation is simply stunning,
this sucker pops right out of the ground at you. There is no
way we would have expected this effect from the impression
we had at zero elevation.
Amazing...
