Background

These circles were created by Matthew Williams just outside Methven, Canterbury, South Island New Zealand in Jan 2002...

"One was a replica of the Allington Down formation. This was reproduced at the request of the Japanese TV crew. Please note I am not claiming the original formation! However they wanted to see that an existing formation could be recreated. We had limited time and only 3 people so we showed them a selection we thought we could do in the time allowed. They picked the Allington Down formation from pictures stored on my laptop. Then we designed and executed it.

It was also an interesting and controversial choice I thought because the original Allington Down  formation seemed to contain a few errors. Our formation corrected those errors. Working at night, we were filmed with time-lapse Infrared cameras on a very high scaffold that was erected next to the field, also by a roving handheld camera whilst we made the circle.

The whole field was illuminated for a short periods every hour so their bigger cameras could look down in colour and see what was happening (infrared comes out in black and white). These lights were a bit of a hindrance actually because they were blinding and take away your natural adjustment to the dark, in which we normally work. So when the lights were turned off we were a little disorientated for a while, until our eyes had adjusted again over the next 10 minutes.

It was actually very odd to work in this way, because there were lighting cranes, scaffold, crew trucks, silenced generator trucks, HMI arc lighting used in the film industry. The lights being turned on was literally like having instant daylight. However apart from the once hourly quick light ups, we were not disturbed or stopped working by the Japanese crew. Actually this is very respectful of them, all US and UK crews we have worked with stop you all the time and want to chat and set up shots and all sorts of stuff. This can seriously eat into your time if your trying to make a circle. So thankfully the Japanese had the right idea.

Next we were asked by day to create a design for a circle from scratch and put that in a field. This was to show just how we do the designs and how to create a circle step by step. Being a day circle made it very easy for us indeed and we completed the crop circle in about 2 hours, without breaking a sweat.

All finished the presenter and all the rest of the cameras entered the formation and inspected our work. We had learned that the female presenter was so impressed she had cried when she saw the night time formation taking shape. She cried when entering the formations by day too. This is certainly a compliment from her for our work.

We would like to thank TV Asahi, and producer Kai Kouichi for their inviting us to make these demonstrations, and hope it helps people understand how some crop circles are made. New Zealand is stunning and has a lot to offer tourists and would be a great place to live. The wheat crop was some of the best I have worked in and was very healthy.

Someone asked me did I say our oration before making the circle. I did, I always say an oration before each circle we make dedicating it to all people interested in crop circles, asking for the circle to have energy and to inspire others or bring paranormal forces to us or others. Whilst the TV crew did not see anything odd, I did see a small globe of orange light behind a tree. Bearing in mind New Zealand doesn't have many people - and we were in a very remote location, the presence this light was odd. It disappeared after 10 minutes. It isn't the first time red orange or yellow lights have been present when making circles. I believe these to be either thought forms or perhaps other Intelligences. When I see them I don't get scared I just acknowledge them with a thank you and carry on working. These kind of weird things which do regularly happen to circlemakers are hard for non-circlemakers to accept. However anyone can make crop circles, I suggest trying making them with a positive outlook and perhaps saying orations as we do, because I feel this attracts extra weirdness. That's why I keep coming back to make more because it is the weirdness that surrounds crop circles that I am interested in mostly" ....
