Reconstruction of the
2009 Barbury Castle formation
1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.
2. Construct the inscribed heptagon (regular 7-sided polygon) of circle 1, pointing up.
3. Draw the connecting line between the upper lefthand and righthand angular points of heptagon 2.
4. Construct a circle centered at the lower intersection of circle 1 and the vertical centerline, tangent to line 3.
5. Copy circle 4 to the upper angular point of heptagon 2.
6. Construct a circle centered at the lower righthand angular point of heptagon 2, tangent to circle 5 at the lower side.
7. Copy circle 6 to the center of circle 1.
8. Copy circle 6 six times, to the other angular points of heptagon 2.
9. Construct a circle concentric to circle 5, passing through the rightmost angular point of heptagon 2.
10. Copy circle 9 six times, to the other angular points of heptagon 2.
11. Copy circle 6 fourteen times, to the outermost and next outermost sets of mutual intersections of circles 9 and 10, as shown.
12. Construct a circle centered at the lower intersection of circle 1 and the vertical centerline, tangent to the rightmost circle 8 at the lower lefthand side.
13. Copy circle 12 to the center of circle 1.
14. Construct a circle centered at the upper intersection of circle 1 and the vertical centerline, tangent to circle 13 at the upper side.
15. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 14 at the upper side.
16. Copy circle 14 to the lower intersection of circle 5 and the vertical centerline, and move it (copy and delete original) to its own upper intersection with the vertical centerline.
17. Construct a circle concentric to circle 5, tangent to circle 16 at the upper side.
18. Copy circles 5 and 17 as a whole six times, to the other angular points of heptagon 2.
19. Circles 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 18 are used for the final steps.
20. Remove all redundant parts not visible in the formation itself.
21. Colour all areas corresponding to standing...
22. ...or to flattened crop, and finish the reconstruction of the 2009 Barbury Castle formation.
23. The final result, matched with the aerial image.
