Knott
Oak is a tiny hamlet just outside of the ancient town of
Ilminster. Ilminster itself is mentioned in documents dating
from 725 and in a Charter granted to the
Abbey of Muchelney
(10 miles to the north) by King Ethelred in 995. Today its known
for its annual fair, and weekly markets. However crop circles
have never been sighted around its surrounding countryside, so
it came as a surprise to us all when we received word of this
event. Its location within the field, at the very bottom of the
hillside made it very difficult to gain an easy advantage point.
The
design comprises of three elements. A triangular shape, a circle
with a pathway, connected to the more complex circular design.
The triangular design included a three directional floor
pattern, creating its three sides, with the separate circle
flowing in an anticlockwise rotation. The overall quality of the
floor pattern was reasonable, however it was over a week old on
our arrival. Katy however thought it was wonderful with Milly
the Bagpuss.
