Silbury Hill Formation June 22nd 2006 Field Report
The formation is very easy to see from the road, also from the houses
directly opposite, I guess any light of any kind could have been seen
from the houses. I was a little alarmed to find a board in the crop as
I entered the field, could have been unrelated although was a little
too obvious.
On following the tramlines its easy to make your way to the formation
without damaging any crop, as did the large vehicle tracks which showed
a vehicle had followed the same route after the wheat had grown and
crushed down the same height wheat as stood around, must have been
today I thought.
Imagine my surprise on entering the formation to find:
The lay completely shredded:
The general formation appeared to be kept and didn't seem to have any
missing parts when compared to the aerial shots shown earlier
Some photos of the damage:

In some places the downed crop remain, lay'd but very damaged, squashed
and extremely broken stalks.
Even at ground level the stems were broken, this I believe a result of
the violent destruction of the
crop. Sorry no stem samples taken due to extremely damaged crop. I
couldn't find even 1 undamaged bent stalk.
With much sadness I left fairly soon after my arrival (didn't fancy
bumping into the angry farmer or whoever was responsible for the
shredding), you can see the houses in the top of this picture.

and believe there was something here to look at, but alas it has been
taken away... with all the shredded plant... nowhere to be seen
