Field
report

Diagram Graham Tucker Copyright 2005
This three-fold trefoil
that's appeared right at the end of the season, occupies the same field
as the first Meopham formation that was reported on July 6th. They're
both positioned quite close together and this is the first time Kent
has received 2 formations in the same field.
Spread over almost 3
tramlines this new formation is almost double the size of the first
one. The lay is somehow suggesting that this particular pair might have
been created by the same author. For once again everything is laid
anti-clockwise and whilst the swirling intricacies and centrepieces
that we've all come to expect, are noticeably missing, it's quite a
neatly laid affair as before. The do-nut rings that were quite a
prominent feature in the Boxley formation (July 17th) are featured once
again, without any evidence suggesting breakthroughs into them. Whilst
the standing crop and much of the downed crop featured heavily drooping
seed-heads, in almost 10% of the lay, plants were found with their
seed-heads aligned.
The crop is more than
ready for harvesting ... it being reprieved by the recent heavy rains.
Whilst I would like to have seen aerials of these formations side by
side, sadly it's probably a bit too late in the day!
