FIELD REPORT

Barton99d.jpg (25672 bytes)

Image Kevin Constant Copyright 1999

The formation is situated between the small town of Barton-le-Clay and the village of Hexton in Bedford about 5 miles from Luton on the B655. Located at map reference TL093304 it is located on a rise in the field and is clearly visible from the road and is indeed quite striking and reminiscent of formations of the early 90’s. (See images) The crop is young wheat. The formation shows signs of entry from the edge of the field but this may be visitors. The tramline passes through the formation. The entire laid crop in the circles and rings has been laid clockwise, has a very tidy lay, clean edges and standing tufts in the centre of the circle and the little "tail". The only anomaly occurred when an unusually large flock of crows repeatedly "circled" and landed in the formation. (Presumably after laid crop). Russell Stannard is photographing the formation from the air, so I expect images to appear on the Internet and I am trying to contact the farmer for any further information. I will needless to say forward any further information when I receive it.

Anyone reported the appearance this week of a crop circle in a field next to the Hexton Road, just outside Barton-Le-Clay in Bedfordshire, England?

It's in a field on the left just as you approach Barton-Le-Clay from Hexton along the Hexton Road. The pattern appears to be based around two circles with a linking 'bar'. I first noticed it driving home from work just after 5pm on Wednesday 2nd June 1999. I don't think it was there in the morning, but then again it was raining very heavily at that time and I was travelling in the opposite direction.

Reported  Tony Edmonds, Hertfordshire, England

The lower Barton-le-Clay circle is swirled clockwise while the upper circle and ring   are swirled anticlockwise.
