Four circles are placed in this field behind the Army Barracks which is east of Roundway. The first set of circles are positioned underneath the main Power Lines. These include a large circle which is approximately 130ft in Dia. The floor lay is extremely interesting as it's constructed in an 's' shape. This means that it has two different rotations, the inner part is swirled anticlockwise turning clockwise on the outside. The crop forks itself into the standing wheat on the perimeter. From the ground you can see it's not a true circle, One side of the circle is more elliptical. Unfortunately the power lines make visiting this circle very unpleasant, because of there activity. There is a much smaller circle positioned next to the larger one with a normally, approx. 40ft in dia. These circles are very exciting and are in my view the most important around the Avebury area. |

Positioned further up the field are two more sets of circles on larger than the other. The larger circle has a wide ring connected to it which is approximately 200ft in diameter. The whole formation is very well defined within the mature wheat, which means you get an good elevation from the top of Roundway. The centres are twisted with the stems splayed very intricately in different directions. Crop. Mature Wheat. Copyright (C)1995 Peter. R. Sorensen |
