C & F  Phenomenon Research Field Report

A formation @ Windmill Hill nr Avebury, Wiltshire.
Reported 7/8/00 (Barley)

Today we have had the pleasure of visiting and examining a
formation that, from ground level is one of the most
impressive I have ever seen, in terms of construction and
detail this crop circle shows no compromise.

Situated at the ancient settlement of Windmill Hill near
Avebury in Wiltshire is an arrangement of circles and rings
that defies all rational explanation. The formation is placed
within a field of mature barley, the same field in fact that last
year received a huge square formation containing (approx)
280 circles arranged in the form of a hard edged inverted fractal. This time the design is far more
simple and relaxed, or so it would seem at first glance. In
fact this design that spans across some (approx) 250ft is, I
feel, an unprecedented masterpiece, so much so, we felt
rather guilty for walking on it's fragile floor.

What we have here is five large circles, four of them with
very neat standing centers. Each of the main circles has an
average diameter of (approx) 50ft, arranged in a rather
incoherent manner, I guess the word pictogram would be
the best way to describe the overall design, two at the top,
two at the bottom on a slant and a central one that is
surrounded by a pair of rings that meet with the top and
bottom sections of the formation, rather interestingly these
rings have had their laid crop put down in opposite
directions from an obvious start point.  From the air, most
people would conclude that this formation is nothing special
and rather unimpressive, especially when compared with
some of the highly complex designs we have received this
year. Only from ground level can the amazing lay and
construction be fully appreciated. The moment we set
foot into this formation it became apparent that we were in a
very special crop circle. The first thing that we noticed was
the floor of the formation was rather like a blanket of
feathers about four inches deep that covered the whole
formation in a fantastic fluid & soft style. Any pressure
applied to this delicate floor construction, even the weight
of my hand resting on the surface of the laid barley was
enough to crush it to the floor leaving the crop flat and
broken.  Within one of the pairs of circles there was a very
interesting feature comprised of a large standing circle of
crop sitting within the outer most  circle of the pair at the
top of the formation that has four paths, several feet wide,
these paths that form a cross have all the barley laid from
the outside facing into the center. Where the four flows of
crop intersect there is a huge block of tightly woven crop,
looking at this feature, one would have to conclude that
these pathways must have gone down in one stroke, as far
as I could gather this is the only way this chunky
intersection could have been created. One other aspect of
this part of the formation I feel is well worth a mention, that
being a very slender ring (approx) three inches wide and
covering an area (approx) 10ft diameter, that's overlaid on the
cross. This fine ring was laid down in the same, off the
ground, feather style as the rest of the formation, the path
was so thin, attempting to walk through it was out of the
question.

Overall this was major treat for us, all the people we
encountered whilst we were in this crop circle tended to
agree with this view.

On the ground, simply stunning.

I would like to say thanks to Bob for letting me handle his
long shiny pole during our visit to the formation!!

To be updated with Photos soon.
