A formation @ Golden Ball Hill nr Alton Barnes. Wiltshire.
Reported 14/7/00 (Wheat)
Situated almost directly below the towering & beautiful Golden
Ball Hill near Alton Barnes lies the latest crop formation of the
season. This one has a distinctly organic flavour and feel to it.
From the top of any hill in the neighbourhood the view of
this crop circle is quite beautiful.
What we have is a six armed design spanning five tramlines,
(approx) 300ft Dia. This formation consists of a rather huge
area of downed crop with a central component of standing
wheat arranged in the form of six rotating flower petals. This
central pattern within the main formation has the illusion effect
of clockwise rotation whilst the glyph as a whole, which is
largely created using downed crop gives the impression of
anti clockwise motion, due to the curvature of the arms of this
elegant design. For reasons unknown, one of the six outer arm
sections has been turned back into the main body of the
formation which gives the whole glyph a rather intriguing
finish.
When we visited this formation at 7.30am on the day of it's
arrival we were quite surprised by the very messy floor lay,
most of the wheat was in an almost upright position with only
the edges of the pattern being well defined. Like several
formations of the 2000 season, this one has a very rough and
hurried finish.
It seems to me that some formations are not supposed to
be viewed at ground level.
Very attractive.
