A formation @ Avebury Avenue. Reported 13/7/00
(Wheat)
Just outside the beautiful village of Avebury in Wiltshire,
within sight of the avenue of standing stones is a formation
that takes us back to the early part of the 1990s.
Situated some distance from the stones is a rather simple
but very impressive formation that, for me had all the
subjective and objective qualities needed to make this one a
pleasure to visit.
What we have here is a string of circles and paths stretching
out across a wheat field for (approx) 225ft. The first section is a
dumbbell constructed from two circles of different sizes. The
first one measuring (approx) 52ft, from this we have a path
(approx 4ft wide and 60ft in length that connects to the second
circle (approx) 23ft diameter following on from this there is a gap of standing crop before the next aspect of the design, which is a
semicircle curving around the aforementioned circle. After a
further 15ft section of standing crop there is a further circle
with a diameter of (approx) 20ft. coming out of this circle at a slight angle is a path (approx) 26ft in length that leads to a final circle
with approx)14ft diameter.
Throughout this design I found numerous examples of
expanded nodes & seamless bending. One wheat stem in
particular had severe bending at the nodes that left the plant in
a very odd but unbroken shape.
A very pleasing formation indeed.
