A Field report.

Data on the Oregon Crop Circle:

64 X 64 feet in diameter.

Double horseshoes in centre, one inside the other. Horseshoe opening faces south-east.

The circle formed east of Salem Oregon.

Formed around 6th July 1997, exact date unknown, Carol Pedersen, Oregon CCCS Director investigated it on July 9, it had not been entered by very many people at that time. Many split nodes but not many bent ones. Wheat layover very typical of circles, little if any indication of hoaxing. Samples sent to Dr. Levengood.

Wheat was not quite mature, weather was rainy, underlay still damp.

A crop circle near Salem may be a first for Oregon. A double circle with a rectangular pattern in the centre in a wheat field about 100 yards north-east of Silver Creek Falls exit from Highway 22. The geometrical formation is 50 to 60 feet across and does not appear to be manmade. (I drove out and there are no tracks and nobody had walked into it. It can be seen from the highway.)

A formation in wheat has appeared on a farm near Salem,Oregon. I was alerted 7 July and after some detective work, reached the land owners wife by phone. Found that her son farms the land. All the family were distressed at the publicity. I gained permission to measure and sample. Farmers wife saw the formation early morning 28 June. Farmer went to site at about 8 AM and carefully looked for entrance point. He found a footprint and what he felt was a very faint path leading in from the top of the hill. He is sure this is man made. Design is about 100 ft.../ 10 ft circle anti clock wise,10 ft. standing then 8 to 10 ft. down clockwise, a U shaped standing portion with a pathway to outer circle. Center spirals out anti clockwise. Many broken stalks,no pitted or burned nodes found. Pretty clean job, though, and I understand it looks nice from the air. No lights or sounds noted by neighbours the night it arrived. One house is fairly close and overlooks the site. If man made I would say they did pretty well for a first try. I took video and stills ground level. No air views as I was all alone to do the sampling, worked till dark and now it's raining today. Farmer has set up barriers to stop entrance,24 hour guard. About 2 weeks till harvest.
