The following report of the crop circles discoveries in Austria 1997 is mainly based on the information and photos by Hans Wagner and Judith kreidler from Austria.
Three or even more more crop circle formations were discovered on August 14th 1997 in the federal state of Kernten in Austria. Another formation was discovered at St. Marein in the federal state of Steiermark. The following report includes also some interesting background information.

Austrian newspapers reported also crop circles in the Austrian federal state of Osttirol. These reports couldn't be confirmed jet. I hope we will get more news about this soon.

GENERAL FACTS AND THOUGHTS ABOUT THE CROP CIRCLE IN KERNTEN

All crop circle formations and pictograms were positioned in a specific area. the formation at Nikolsdorf ( 1 ) was just 5 . 10 km from the big pictogram at Oberdrauburg ( 3 ). The formation at TRESSDORF ( 2 ) was placed in the Gailtal, the valley of the river Gail, and this valley is just beside the valley in which the big pictogram was discovered at Oberdrauburg ( 3 ).
All three formations were discovered in the morning of August 14th 1997 and were said to be not there the day before.
It was said that nobody took deep surveys and investigations on the formations. I hope this is not true and I try to get contact to some people who probably did it. If I got results I will update this report with it.
THE AUSTRIAN CONNECTION
For me ( A.M. ) , there seems to be a connection to the British symbolism, which is quite obvious. The double-ringed ( 1 ) has a connection to the classic pre-1990ies formations. But there are still formations in our days that show this design as for example the formation at Ropley Dean, Hampshire 1996. The big pictogram ( 3 ) seems to have a symbolic connection to the well known pictograms of 1990 at Alton Barnes , Stanton St.Bernard and East Kennett in Wiltshire, but even more to the East Kennett formation in 1991.
The formation with the SIX ARMED cross inside ( 2 ) showed a symbolic connection to the Oliver`s Castle formation and of course to the main symbolic theme in 1997 with the formations at Stonehenge, Cley Hill and of course to the fractal stars at Silbury Hill and Milk Hill in Wiltshire.
MORE CROP CIRCLES IN THAT AREA IN 1997 ?
Mr. Wagner and Mrs. Kreidler saw during their flights some markings in the harvested fields in that area. It has to be confirmed if these resembled harvested crop circles. Further research is going on and results will be updated.
INTERPRETATIONS
To all formations, the different people gave their statement of interpretation and about the question who made them. it seems unbelievable but the local police and hunters still believes in a funny interpretation. The formation should be caused by roebucks and does. Well you can do with this whatever you want... The locals don't want to believe in such explanations and refer to their own sightings of strange phenomena in connection to the appeared crop circles.
Other people just see a tourist trap in the formations. They refer to the last years formation which produced a big interest by the media. Till today there is no evidence for such claims.
WHY THERE - A CONNECTION TO THE ANCIENT HISTORY OF THIS REGION ?
In the case that the formations are genuine, a big question is: "Why Here ? " Some interesting details could give a possible answer:
The area in which the formations appeared is close to the Wolayer mountains of the Alps. In ancient times there was an old sacred place with a monument. This was a horned standing stone with a hole in it. Every equinox this hole pointed the rising position of the sun an the horizon. This monument was destroyed but rebuild in our times by modern druids. Mountaineers and hundreds of Italian tourists were faced this summer 1997 with the view of a blue and shiny disc that was hovering over that mountain. Now some people think that there is a connection between all reports. Another interesting fact could probably support this interpretation. Ancient stone-carvings, discovered in the Wolayer mountains apparently show very similar designs as the discovered crop circle formations. But this interesting claim has to be confirmed and I will do my best on it. results will be updated if when available.
ANCIENT CROP CIRCLES IN THAT REGION !?
Also the local folklore says in its legends that the elves and fairies used the crop and the fields to talk and communicate to the people.
