'Significant change' seen in wheat at circle site Paulding, Ohio, July 22, 1996:
On July 18, 1996, Dr. Wm. C. Levengood, a biophysicist in Grass Lake, Michigan, USA, and the primary scientist in the BLT Research Team visited the Paulding, Ohio farm site to present his preliminary laboratory results from the plant samples gathered at the Paulding formation.
The BLT Research Team has been examining plant and soil samples from crop formations world-wide since l989, particularly formations in the U.S., U.K., Canada and a few countries in Eastern Europe; over 200 formations have been analysed in depth to-date, and two papers have been published in the peer-reviewed scientific literature discussing the physical findings. A third paper is in progress and will be published this fall or winter.
Specific findings in crop formation plants (as opposed to their controls) include:
-alteration in the germination and development of seed embryos; depending upon the stage of maturation of the plants at the time of the crop formation's occurrence, and also depending upon the particular species of plant, weather conditions, and the level of intensity of the energies involved, seeds are sometimes non-existent, or they are stunted and will not germinate, or are stunted and germinate poorly, producing non-viable seedlings. In more mature plants, and with other variables in certain constellations, these same energies apparently induce markedly increased robustness in crop formations seeds.
-alteration in nodal length and circumference in the stems of crop formation plants; to varying statistically significant degrees, the apical and penultimate nodes on plant stems are found to be both latitudinally and longitudinally increased. Also, in many instances "expulsion" cavities...huge blown holes coming from the inside out.... are also evident. In addition, the stems of these plants reveal marked bending at the nodes, with the plants as a result being permanently bent in these positions.
-On the microscopic level, cell wall pit diameters in bract tissue are observed to be significantly enlarged, as compared to controls; the wide range of pit size in the formation plants suggests quite different levels of energy are expended-at different sampling sites inside formations and also from formation to formations.
In sum, crop circle plants show evidence of the involvement of rapid air movement, ionisation, electric fields and transient high heat; microwave energies are known to be associated with ion plasmas and are suspected, here, of being the causative factor in the heating of the plants which results in the nodal swelling and bending found in the plant stems, the expulsion cavities, the enlarged cell wall pits in bract tissue and the gross alterations observed in the seeds of these plants.
At the Paulding, Ohio site (Arend Brothers farm) Dr. Levengood presented some preliminary findings regarding his examination of samples taken from the site and sent to his lab; his feeling was that the data indicate statistically significant alterations in node lengths in the samples (about 20% enlargement) as opposed to their controls. Although much greater enlargement in node lengths has been seen elsewhere, the degree of change becomes statistically significant due to several variables. Germination trials have begun on the Paulding samples and will take several weeks to complete, and several other analyses are in progress. When all of the laboratory studies are completed a final written report will be prepared and made available to the public. As of July 21, 1996, it is our opinion that the Paulding Ohio circle is not man-made.
Anyone wanting either copies of Dr. Levengood's two scientific papers on crop formation research and the BLT Research Team's colour photo sheet of laboratory results, and/or the final lab report on the Paulding, Ohio circle must send a self- addressed 8-1/2 x 11" manila envelope and $20 to:
