Landgraaf , (2nd formation) Zuid-Limburg, The Netherlands.

Updated Tuesday 27th August 1996.

Report by Eltjo Haselhoff.

At the beginning of July, the first Dutch crop circle of 1996 was discovered in Landgraaf. On Sunday August 11th, I heard that another one had been found, only several meters away from the first one. It had a total length of 38 meter, hence smaller than its big brother, but not less impressive in design. Note the little (1 m diameter) baby circle slightly right above the largest one! A 40 cm diameter bunch of crop was standing upright in the centre. Unfortunately many circle tourists had entered the formation already, and, as usual, left their traces (the more often I see the effect of human activity in a crop circle the less probable I find it that this phenomenon is man-made - YES everybody may quote this!).

The diagram below is hence perhaps not entirely accurate: all circles were actually connected with pathways to the main part of the glyph, and since those paths had been walked on so often I could not be sure anymore whether they were genuine or not. In spite of the damage, my 'psychic assistant' felt plenty of 'energy' again. In several of the circular patterns I also noticed the bald centres that I have reported earlier. The stalks are cleanly spiralled, but in the very centre there is a bald spot, where no stalks grow at all. What are these things? Footprints of a hoaxer who turned around his axis while holding a rope? Next week I will transfer an image to this site which shows a close-up of a beautifully spiralled centre (which made me think of an optical diaphragm) with a little bald spot in it. When somebody would tell me that it had been created by a pole, I would not doubt his words. However, I was told that the first Julia fractal near Stonehenge also had many of it circles' centres with bald spots and even dents. Who has a clue here? Pretty bad pole shot from the Landgraaf II formation - but it proves that it's there!

Dense spirals in the centres of the Landgraaf II formation, which makes me think of an optical diaphragm. But why is the centre 'bald'? Is this the mark of a hoaxer's pole?

My hand helps to estimate the size of the 'bald spot'.

Centre of the large circle bottom-left from the large one in the middle. Did a hoaxer stand here while holding a rope, ruining the crop? The formation was pretty old when I visited it, so perhaps it does not mean anything.

Thelittle 'baby' ring I mentioned in the report. Diameter outer ring: 1 m, diameter inner bunch of standing crop: 40 cm. The thing was too far away from the main circle to step in it without damaging the crop.
