2005-06-25   Germany Nordrhein-Westfalen Lohmar-Scheiderhöhe Wheat

REPORT BY ANDREAS MÜLLER

UPDATED 28.06.2005

Location: Lohmar-Scheiderhöhe
County State: Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, Nordrhein-Westfalen
Date / Discovered: 25.06.2005
Appeared: Nacht 24/25.06.2005 / Night June 24/25, 2005
Crop -Wheat

Report:
On June 25, 2005, a new formation was discovered in a field of wheat at Lohmar-Scheiderhöhe in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis in the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen. The formation consists of a large crescent, formed by two eccentric circles (one standing one flattened), joined by two smaller simple circles that were connected by a small slightly curved path and a third mini grapeshot circle just next to it. At a field-investigation researchers Frank Laumen and Andreas Vogt discovered a pleasing formation with no obvious traces of human mechanical involvement.

Strange and interesting are the reports and observations by the owning farmer and other local field residents:

Farmer Mr. XX told that during the night the formation appeared all farm animals went crazy: The dog was hauling. The cows on the next meadow that are normally lying down at night, were all standing anxious at the fence. One pregnant cow even had an abort.

The neighbouring farmer’s family was sitting outside this warm summer night until early morning at about 4:00h with a direct view onto the field in which the formation appeared. They said that they had not seen any suspicious activity in the field. However it is at least questionable how focus such a convivial gathering is on a nocturnal dark field about 200 metres away?

Furthermore the farmer reported that they were sitting outside this night together with neighbours until 04:00 in the morning and in full view of the field. They said that they did not notice any dubious activity. However it is questionable how focused one can be under those circumstances.

2005-06-24   Germany Rheinland-Pfalz Schmitshausen Wheat, Barley and Rye

REPORT BY ANDREAS MÜLLER
http://www.kornkreise-forschung.de

Location: Schmitshausen
County State: Rheinland-Pfalz
Date / Discovered: 24.06.2005
Crop type:  - Wheat, Barley and Rye

Report:
On June 24, 2005, micro light-pilot Michael Voselek discovered a new formation at Schmitshausen in Rheinland-Pfalz and reported it to www.kornkreise-forschung.de. When I investigated the new formation there were 3 small formations in three different fields. But they were placed that close to each other, just parted by a small farm track, that it seems they were intended to resemble one thing.

In all three fields the investigation on June 25, showed that they must have formed already several days before. In all circles and rings clear traces of at least previous visitors were present. In some circles I furthermore discovered shoe-imprints underneath the lay of flattened crop in the again dried soil. In those circles that had no standing tuft centres the geometrical centre was heavily trampled unlike the rest of it. However the small dumbbell formation in the barley field was that much grown out again that a assessment was not possible anymore. Within the main part, the double-ringed circle, mechanical traces in the width of a step and in consistent repeating intervals were present. However it is unclear if caused by previous visitors or already by the alleged hoaxers? It is interesting to note that this part was placed just in the same field as last year's (2004) formation in rape. And this formation - such as some other previous ones in this area - were definitively man-made. So is this formation this year's attempt by a local group of hoaxers?

Because the amount of time that has passed since the formation formed and then was discovered and visited first, we are unable to answer this question finally. This shows exactly what useless damage hoaxing can cause, at least for everybody with a scientific and research intention.

A detailed survey can be ordered by A. Müller

Assessment:

Pro:

Some circle showed a beautiful swirl pattern. The are is known for crop circles since several years - some examples were interesting.

Con:

In most elements, the design is slightly sloppy. Clear mechanical traces present in all parts (however of unknown origin). Formation is placed exactly at the spot of a known hoax of the previous year. The area is known as well for hoaxed formations at least since 2003.

2005-06-20   Germany Nordrhein-Westfalen Köln-Esch (nr. Cologne) Wheat
REPORT BY ANDREAS MÜLLER
http://www.kornkreise-forschung.de

Location: Köln-Esch (nr. Cologne)
County State: Nordrhein-Westfalen
 Date / Discovered: 20.06.2005
Crop type: Wheat

Report:
On June 20, 2005, a small ringed circle was reported from Köln-Esch, near Köln (Cologne) in Nordrhein-Westfalen and confirmed by the FGK (www.kgk.org).

Here is the original report from the FGK-site:
"On Sunday evening, June 19, I visited the tinged circle at Köln-Esch (discovered on June 18) The following day I discovered a second formation in an adjacent field something like 300-500 metres away. Both formation look identical and were formed probably at the same time. I took the pictures on July 7, nearly three weeks after the first formation was discovered.

Ort / Location: Köln-Esch (nr. Cologne)

Entdeckungsdatum Date / Discovered: 18.06.2005
Getreideart / Crop type: Gerste (?) / Barley (?)

Report:
On June 18, 2005, a small ringed circle was reported from Köln-Esch, near Köln (Cologne) in Nordrhein-Westfalen and confirmed with a visit by Harald Ernst, Webmaster of the FGK. Here is his original report from www.fgk.org: „As I visited the formation on Sunday, June 19, previous visitors have already been in the field and caused some trampling oaths through the standing crop. The formation is visible from the nearby road and placed just between two blocks of living buildings. Inside the formation nearly all crop was broken. There were no traces in the circle’s centre and the soil was in a very dry condition. In the centre an area of about 1,5 m radius was obviously trampled and more flattened (see picture) – again all plants were broken.“

The present damaged makes it relatively possible that with this new formation we are observing the latest attempt of a local team of hoaxers that are active in those fields at least since 2003. Last summer our colleague Andreas Vogt even discovered their hidden hoaxing tools such as stomper boards and ropes in a small wood just next to a field in which they have made an more than obvious hoax. It seems that they have recovered from this loss so far...

A strange and striking similarity to the 1990 East Field formation. Also here we are waiting for further information...

Report by Andreas Müller:

On May 25, 2005, a relatively huge long-pictogram-like formation was discovered in a fresh field of wheat near Horb am Neckar in Baden-Württemberg state and reported on May 27, at www.kornkreise.de (This site also shows some first photos of it.)

We have no field report yet and due to the likely very exposed position of the formation as well as to the already passed time it seems unlikely that an objective assessment will be possible. However two things are for certain: There was already a dumbbell-shaped formation in this area the year before. Then, the formation was investigated by lay-researchers who described a relatively rough lay and judged the formation for being likely man-made. Unfortunately there was no ground inspection by crop circle researchers. Also this year’s formation shows a striking similarity to the famous 1990 East Field „pictogram“ formation (compare our preliminary sketch with the photo of 1990). Cases of such extreme “twins” are very unusual and in most cases those copies were made by hoaxers for demonstration purpose. and the picture subtitle like to following:

UPDATE 29.05.2005

Report:
On May 25, 2005, a 75 meter long pictogram-like formation was discovered in a fresh field of barley near Horb am Neckar in Baden-Württemberg state and reported on May 27, at www.kornkreise.de (This site also shows some first photos of it.)

Dr. Hartmut Endlich, an experienced crop circle investigator, visited the formation on May 29. He reported a rough lay and clear indications of human, mechanical activity. Especially at each circle's centre were he found small, rectangular postholes- and markings, covered by the flattened crop. Even if the time of this investigation was some days after the formation was originally discovered, such traces are unlikely the result of later vandals or debunkers but more likely of the original makers/hoaxers. Also his very own "energetic observation" did not show him any interesting evidence for the idea that something else was responsible for the formation than human hoaxers.

However, even further evidence lead in this direction too: There was already a dumbbell-shaped formation in this area the year before. It is of further interest that even with the formations prominent position just next to a road, it seems not attract as many visitor as one would normally expect...
