One of the best formations of the year arrived very late in the season (night of August 17/18, 2000) in one of the few Dutch fields that had
not yet been harvested, because the wheat had been sown three weeks late. The formation was very well made, with
a perfectly flat lay, crisp edges and many 'characteristics of genuineness'. No biophysical sampling was performed, but accurate field
measurements were made and a geometric analysis is ongoing at this time (August 2000).

The larger of the two in this field was one I badly wanted to catch, but the farmer got to it before me. The squiggly lines were made by the fork lift that collects the bales of straw -- they actually make for a strange, abstract image. I boosted the contrast way up in an effort to bring out the lay of the crop in the circle, which adds to the bizarre look of the picture.
