Reconstruction of the
2009 Roundway Hill formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Copy circle 1 to its righthand intersection with the horizontal centerline.

3. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 2 at the righthand side.

4. Construct the circumscribed hexagon (regular 6-sided polygon) of circle 3, pointing up.

5. Construct the circumscribed circle of hexagon 4.

6. Construct the circumscribed nonagon (regular 9-sided polygon) of circle 1, pointing down.

7. Construct the circumscribed circle of nonagon 6.

8. Construct the inscribed regular 18-sided polygon of circle 1, pointing to the right. Number the angular points from 1 at the far right up to 18, counterclockwise.

9. Copy circle 1 to angular point nr. 8 of polygon 8.

10. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the upper intersection of circles 2 and 9.

11. Copy circle 7 to the center of circle 2.

12. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the upper intersection of circle 11 and the vertical centerline.

13. Copy circle 7 to angular point nr. 8 of polygon 8.

14. Copy circle 1 to angular point nr. 7 of polygon 8.

15. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the lower righthand intersection of circles 13 and 14.

16. Copy circle 7 to angular point nr. 11 of polygon 8.

17. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the upper intersection of circles 11 and 16.

18. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the upper intersection of circle 16 and the vertical centerline.

19. Copy circle 7 to angular point nr. 16 of polygon 8.

20. Copy circle 7 to angular point nr. 4 of polygon 8.

21. Copy circle 1 to angular point nr. 6 of polygon 8.

22. Copy circle 1 to angular point nr. 14 of polygon 8.

23. Draw the connecting line between the righthand intersections of circles 19 and 21 and of circles 20 and 22.

24. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 23.

25. Construct a circle centered at the righthand intersection of circle 12 and the horizontal centerline, tangent to line 23.

26. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 25 at the lefthand side.

27. Copy circle 7 to angular point nr. 5 of polygon 8.

28. Copy circle 7 to angular point nr. 15 of polygon 8.

29. Draw the connecting line between the righthand intersections of circles 19 and 27 and of circles 20 and 28.

30. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 29.

31. Construct a circle centered at the righthand intersection of circle 10 and the horizontal centerline, tangent to line 29.

32. Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 31 at the lefthand side.

33. Copy circle 1 thirteen times, to the remaining angular points of polygon 8, namely nrs. 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17 and 18.

34. Copy circle 7 eleven times, to the remaining angular points of polygon 8, namely nrs. 2, 3, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 17 and 18.

35. Circles 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24, 26, 27, 28, 30, 32, 33 and 34 are used for the final reconstruction.

36. Remove all redundant parts, not visible in the formation itself.

37. Colour all areas corresponding to standing...

38. ...or to flattened plants, and finish the reconstruction of the 2009 Roundway Hill formation.

The final result, matched with two aerial images.

Notice, that one of the curved "rays" (in between the tramlines - upper image to the upper right, lower image to the left) is not finished completely, like the others.
