This mysterious formation with its
geometric motif has appeared next to the famous
Chesterton Windmill, which was built in 1632, by Sir
Edward Peyto who was an astronomer and mathematician who
commissioned this structure. It could well have been
built as an observatory that he used to look at the
stars. The rotating top could have housed Peyto’s
telescope. If so, it was probably converted to a
windmill sometime later.
Could there be a link between this formation and its
possible previous use?
