The stunningly
beautiful Celtic Cross at Etchilhampton Hill, nr Devizes, Wiltshire,
August 15, 2008 grabs my attention, not only because of the affiliations
with the Christian faith, the Celtic traditions and, as Harold
Stryderight says, with Mayan symbolism, but also because it seems to be
a reference to the two crop circles that arrived at Pewsey White Horse
in July 20, 2004 and July 22, 2004. This cross could be seen as a
combination of the two adjacent 2004 formations.

Horse chakra, 22 July 2004 and Pewsey White Horse cross 20 July 2004
In that vein,
we could understand that this cross gives us a glimpse of the spiritual
stage which we, on Earth must pass through. The horizontal arm of the
cross has five discs defining it; five is symbolic for the human
microcosm, the number of man forming a pentagon. The fifth disc on the
long axis, where the horizontal and vertical arms of the cross meet
could correspond to the fifth chakra in the Hindu seven-chakra system.
The fifth chakra, Vishuddhi, is associated with the throat, and relates
to communication, creative action and connection to the whole. It
allows us to speak our truth, and to be heard. “The fifth chakra (Vishuddhi)
is the chakra of diplomacy, of pure relationships with others and of
playful detachment. It removes all our guilt and remorse when it is
opened by the Kundalini, and gives us a kind and compassionate voice “ (adishakti).
When we combine the imagery of
the Axis Mundi, as was mentioned regarding the cross of July 20, 2004
(see
www.indigogroup.co.uk/edge/9sisters.htm), with the imagery of the
cross (union of opposites, totality, central radiant creative energy)
and the Vishuddhi chakra, then we must assume that the message we are
getting is telling us that humanity has a crucial, quintessential
relationship to the workings of the Universe. The cross, although on
first inspection seems to indicate the number four, when we include the
centre, we get five, again the indicator for human involvement.
How does this
idea of communication, speaking the truth, creative sharing and
connectedness become a factor in our role on Earth?
When we think of
communication, the idea of the ‘Word’ comes up. Jesus Christ was the
‘Word’, the ‘Logos’, in this case meaning the underlying order of the
universe (Greek derivation). Another tradition, the ancient Egyptian,
has parallel connections to this idea and to the chakra system through
the image of the goddess Ma’at, ’Truth’. She was the goddess of Truth,
Balance, Order and Justice, and without Her harmonic influence, the
world would revert once again to chaos. . She is described by Lionel
Casson in The Rescue of Jerusalem by Henry T. Aubin:
The word [ma’at]
is almost impossible to translate precisely, but it involved a
combination of such ideas as ‘order’, ‘truth’, ‘justice’, and
‘righteousness’. Ma’at was considered a quality not of men but
of the world, built into it by the gods at the moment of Creation. As
such, it represented the gods’ will. A person endeavored to act in
accordance with the divine will because that was the only way to place
himself in harmony with the gods. For the Egyptian peasant ma’at
meant working hard and honestly; for the official it meant dealing
justly. (98-99)
Aubin goes on to say:
“Symbolizing the concept in ritual was a goddess, herself called Ma’at.
But ma’at’s real place was outside the temple. Ideally, the
principle was supposed to pervade not just everyday life but even
relations between states” (99).
Her justice comes out of the
natural order, or ‘what is’. Just as in the chakra system where the
Kundalini must rise up from the 3 lower physical chakras and through the
fourth, heart chakra, before it opens the throat chakra, so the souls of
the deceased can only progress onward in the afterlife, after their
hearts are weighed by Ma’at against the ostrich feather that is Her
emblem. Those who were ‘true of voice’ (‘maa keru’) would join
the god Osiris in the afterlife. Those with a heavy heart would be
annihilated, or at least put to sleep for a very long time.

So, can we
expect to see more truthful activity and communication in politics as
well as personal affairs soon? Will we finally openly face the truth of
our present life on Earth? Is it so important that we come to a
detached attitude, free of accusative or guilt ridden projections? Are
we being invited to partake in the making of a new order on Earth? Is a
more peaceful approach to life on Earth as crucial as the great Celtic
Cross might suggest: that in fact, our attitude and development has
crucial impact on and relevance to the movement and progress of our
relation to the Universe itself? If so, then that is a very good reason
for all of us to GET SMART! Perhaps this formation symbolizes the
‘separation of the wheat from the chaff’ so to speak, although not in
the manner that was expected.
There are
examples of human beings responding to this spiritual impetus around the
world. They vary greatly, but all point towards an improved life on our
planet Earth. One example in the WEST can be seen at
www.openhandweb.org/gateways_of_light_the_movie, and another
response in the EAST can be seen at
