One of my pilots told me that there was a special new formation this
morning, but it had already been vandalized by the farmer. However
from his description of the damage, it sounded like enough remained
from the original manifestation that I could fix it with
Photoshop. Indeed, it took a few hours to do so, but I managed to
restore the basic geometry to where the original intent could be
enjoyed without wanting to scream!
This is a particularly important formation for me because I’ve been
wishing for a Penrose Triangle -- which is what the centre geometry of
this one is properly called -- for many years.
See:
Many of us are of course familiar with the art of the Dutch artist,
M.C. Escher, who made wonderful use of Roger Penrose’s clever
mathematical discoveries. I especially love Escher’s
“Waterfall.” Check out the second image at:
People often call Penrose’s Magic Triangle an optical illusion, but I
think it’s more of an optical CONFUSION -- but a rose by any other
name...
In any case, this brilliant formation got me into the air this
afternoon to film all the Wiltshire formations for the first time this
year. And I immediately got back to my computer to erase the damage
that the irate farmer did to this lovely creation.
Here are before and after shots. (Can you believe the turnip-headed
land owner had his mowing machine running while he drove across the
field out to the masterpiece?! That destroyed far more crop than the
formation!)
