Reconstruction of the
2005 East Kennett formation

EAST KENNETT REPORT

On entering this delightful offering from the Circle makers, I suddenly realised how much I had missed this actual location. The particular field in question has witnessed a number of formations in the last 15 years, ranging from long pictograms of the early nineties, to heart shape patterns at the turn of the millennium. However this latest design has to rank among one of the best at this spot. It is situated on high ground, with commanding views of the downs with West Kennett Long Barrow and Silbury Hill dominating the skyline.  It really is quite a spiritual experience to view these ancient structures together, helping to create an atmosphere which I haven’t experienced in other parts of the surrounding landscape. Whatever is here causing this sensation (possibly due to the formation or even the many ley lines that run through this field) it really is worth a visit. The Farmer has kindly placed an honesty box within the formation, so access has been granted.

The floor construction also has to be witnessed. The 12 circles which are located within the inner part of the design have been produced with great control, with their splayed centres. These really are the highlights on the ground; however the spokes that radiate out from the centre, remind myself of the 2004 Silbury Hill motifs that were found on the perimeter. Obviously not in their design, but in their overall construction, and the interaction you have with the shapes, as you walk around.  It certainly has an air of that huge formation from last year. This time though the East Kennett creation is far more intimate, as you feel far more in-tune with the landscape, at this magnificent location.
