A FILM CREW, A FARMER & HIS SON & TWO ROCK CARVINGS

The title of this report may have an amusing theme, and indeed the whole situation at the location became rather farcical. But the actual event at Portchester, hopefully has indicated an emergence of a design we have waited a long time to see.

Close to the Roman port of Portchester, and behind the Nelson's Obelisk monument and naval Fort, is a rather picturesque location, which became the home to an extremely surprising event. This particular formation formed in an area very new to the phenomenon, and indeed appeared without being reported for a good week before we even arrived. This information came eventually from the Farmers son, who met us at the location.

The emergence of this design in 2004, caused great excitement in the community. Never before have we seen such a close representation to the ancient engravings we see from the burial sites of New Grange Ireland (3rd & 4th millennium BC) and the temple of Al Tarxien, Malta 2400-2300 BC: The significance of the design is quite mouth watering, as the principle in the design, indicates quite clearly that there is a message of transference from world to the other. Basically the ancient symbolism was used on several occasions as the spiritual barrier into the inner sanctuary. The cross over from the transient world to be reborn. This theme was used throughout the Megalithic and Neolithic worlds: in much of Europe, in Mexico, in China and in Egypt. It possibly suggest the balance of the opposing energies, by which enlightment can be eventually reached. However we can see from the images here on the report page, that indeed there are opposing sides, as one side is clearly different to the other.

On the ground within the formation, the floor pattern demonstrated superb control, to create the spiralled effect. It was the first time we have seen a formation of this design on the ground. A similar design occurred on 2002 at West Overton, indicating an ancient engraving, but this is the first time we have seen two opposing spirals merge. And indeed that was the initial plan, to bring them together in this form. In Taoism, the double spiral is the opposing energy currents within man. It is man's birth and death.

But with this profound symbol in-front on us, after a rather long journey to see it, we were confronted with the darker side to crop circling. The wrath of the Farmer, or should we say the Farmer's son. However the misunderstanding of us being allowed entry by the son's father, resulted in rather unsavoury comments being pasted in our direction when the son returned. It was an unfortunate situation, as our time in the formation had to be cut short. But we managed to see it, that was the important factor. My hope in this rather quiet season so far, is that we continue to see designs of this nature occurring.

Remarkable Spiral Event

On Saturday the 12th of June we were privileged to film a beautifully crafted and very well constructed formation near to Nelson’s Obelisk and also near to the Roman port of Portchester, which prior to the Romans arrival, had been an ancient settlement. The motif of the formation was very similar to some of the carvings in the Passage, Chamber and in particular one of the external stone carvings kerbstone 67 at Newgrange Ireland.  Newgrange dates back to about 3200 BC and I feel it is well worth visiting their web site as it clearly shows the amazing similarities to this exceptional formation.

I had found a strange relationship between the Portchester crop circle (Portsmouth) and some rock carvings in Buttony, Northumberland.

"This formation spans over 6 tramlines - making it possibly 300ft in width. The two circles look to be about 150ft each. Couldn't tell if these were sets of concentric rings or two spirals - the formation is in Barley." Karen Douglas. ( The formation is a short distance from Nelson's Obelisk and the location is only a few miles north of the old roman port of Portus Adurni)
