Reconstruction of the
2004 Coombe Abbey formation

1. Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.

2. Copy circle 1 six times, three to the left and three to the right, the first pair to the lefthand and righthand intersections of circle 1 with the horizontal centerline, the next pair to the corresponding intersections of the first pair, and so on, as shown.

3. Construct three circles concentric to circle 1, passing through the righthand intersections of consecutive circles 2 to the right with the horizontal centerline, as shown.

4. Construct a circle centered at the lefthand intersection of the leftmost circle 3 and the horizontal centerline, tangent to circle 1 at the righthand side.

5. Copy circle 4 two times, to the lefthand intersections of the other two circles 3 on the left and the horizontal centerline.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5, mirrored with respect to the vertical centerline, as shown.

7. Draw the connecting line between all lower mutual intersections of circles 1 and 2, and extend it to the left.

8. Construct a line from the center of circle 4, perpendicular to line 7.

9. Construct a circle centered at the intersection of line 7 and the vertical centerline, tangent to the innermost circles 3 at the near sides.

10. Copy circle 9 to the intersection of lines 7 and 8.

11. Copy circle 1 to the center of circle 4.

12. Copy circle 9 to the lefthand intersection of circles 10 and 11.

13. Circles 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 12 make up all necessary parts for the final reconstruction.

14. Leave out all parts not visible within the formation itself.

15. Colour all areas corresponding to standing...

16. ...or to flattend crop. This will finish the reconstruction of the 2004 Coombe Abbey formation.

17. The final result, matched with the aerial image.
