SUMMER MADNESS AND STRANGE OCCURRENCES

Waden hill is a slightly sloping hill overlooking the wonderful stone circle of Avebury. Its positioning and quality of soil had left many of its past crop fields look a poor cousin to the surrounding flourishing fields. But this certainly hadn’t deterred the Circlemakers from creating their designs over the years.

This latest design has been lucky enough to have a decent crop on its slope for this year, which certainly helps in the preservation for the shape. However  on the night this formation formed, the field was surrounded by celebrating people for the summer solstice.

There is no questioning that the formation has major connections to the Solstice. It initial design is representing the transformation from the summer cycle to the autumn and winter. Indeed the Yin symbol at the very top of the shape is symbolizing the connection with the Earth and the moon. But the alignment with the central pathway radiating out of the bottom circle is intriguing, as it points directly through the Avebury henge. The Chinese symbol can be explained quite profoundly from the text below:

Yin yang is the Way of Heaven and Earth, the fundamental principle of the myriad things, the father and mother of change and transformation, the root of inception and destruction." - Su-wen

It is fascinating to know that this symbol just may have connections to the formation that appeared last year on the other side of Avebury at Green Street. You can see within last year’s event, the Yin Yang symbol within the central portion of the formation, although it was not a direct representation. I fore one felt that it had a message to convey.

2002 FORMATION LINK AND IMAGE

As I mentioned in the 2002 report, the Circlemakers were hinting at the harmony and balance needed within out lives. Many people celebrating around the Stones on the 21st hopefully felt the same way. But there was no mistaking the obvious connection with the design and the night of the Solstice.

The crop formation wasn’t the only strange occurrence that night. We received several emails from people stating that they encountered unusual battery failures, not only from cameras, but also from cars around the area. One particular individual had a complete electric failure from his vehicle, not far from the location of the formation. Of course this may just be a coincidence, but its seems odd that these two events coincided with each other. Indeed these instances are not uncommon in connection with the appearance of crop circles, so we must record such cases to cross references with the past and future events, when they arise.

The location of this formation meant that it was on display for all the people celebrating the solstice to see. Its exposed position in the field, meant that it received far more visitors than any other formation in the area, within just a few days. The amount of people that actually visited the formation caused rather disrespectful behaviour. The worst of these was the lack of respect for the crop, by walking through the crop instead of using the tramlines. At the end of the day, the Farmer has to earn a living, and any further downed crop will ultimately be taken out of the Farmers pocket. So the tramlines should only be the routes into and out of the fields at all times.

Apart from the behaviour problems of a percentage of the people that visited the formation, it really was quite a surprise to receive just a graceful design. Normally we don’t expect to see an impressive formation within this field, but we were all pleasantly surprised, as you can see from the ground and aerial imagery, it was regarded to be the best of the bunch from all the years past on Waden Hill.
