Reconstruction of the 2003 Burderop Down formation | ||
1.
Draw a circle. Draw and extend the horizontal and vertical centerlines.
2.
Construct the inscribed dodecagon (regular 12-sided polygon) of circle 1, pointing up. (The dodecagon can easily be constructed by two hexagons – regular 6-sided polygons –, one pointing up, one pointing to the right).
3.
Construct the "flower of life" pattern, by copying circle 1 six times to every other angular-point of dodecagon 2, starting at the top.
4.
Construct a second "flower of life" pattern in the same way as step 3, now starting at the right.
5.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circles 3 and 4 (at the outer sides).
6.
Construct the inscribed dodecagon of circle 5, pointing up.
7.
Copy circle 1 six times to every other angular-point of dodecagon 6, starting at the top.
8.
Copy circle 1 six times to the tangent-points (intersections) of circles 7, as shown.
9.
Construct a circle, centered at the rightmost angular-point of dodecagon 6, tangent to the two rightmost circles 3 at the near sides.
10.
Copy circle 9 to the center of circle 1.
11.
Construct the circumscribed dodecagon of circle 1, with the middle of the upper side coincident with the upper angular-point of dodecagon 2, as shown.
12.
Construct the circumscribed circle of dodecagon 11.
13.
Copy circle 12 six times, to the centers of circles 4.
14.
Construct a circle, centered at the right angular-point of dodecagon 11 just above the horizontal centerline, tangent to the corresponding (near) side of dodecagon 2.
15.
Copy circle 14 to the right intersection of circle 1 and the horizontal centerline.
16.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 15 at the far side.
17.
Copy circle 16 six times, to the centers of circles 3.
18.
Construct a small circle the centerline of which connects the two lower intersections of circles 12 and 16 with the vertical centerline.
19.
Construct a circle concentric to the lower circle 7, passing through the center of circle 18, see detail.
| ||
20.
Copy circle 19 six times, to the centers of circles 3.
21.
Copy circle 19 five times, to the centers of the other circles 7.
22.
Copy circle 19 again six times, to the centers of circles 8.
23.
Circles 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 17, 19, 20, 21 and 22 make up all ingredients for the reconstruction.
24.
Leave out all parts not visible in the formation.
25.
All areas corresponding to standing...
26.
...or to flattened crop are coloured, which finishes the reconstruction of the 2003 Burderop Down formation.
27.
