A new formation has been discovered at
Sompting, first reported 23rd June 2002. Although it lies around a
third of a mile north-west of the first formation which appeared here
on 3rd June 2002, it is actually in the same field, which has a huge
L-shaped configuration. This new arrival is tucked up into the far
corner of the northern part of the L and cannot be seen from the
other formation, but can be viewed from the footpath which crosses
the field around its halfway point.
The formation, in wheat, is a convex
equilateral triangle; that is, a triangle with curved edges. Three
overlapping rings surround it.
Allan Brown says: "The three
circles, placed at the tips of the convex triangle, each have a
radius of exactly half way around the side of the convex triangle."
The convex triangle itself is around 90' diameter, while each
overlapped ring is an average of 82' diameter, and around 5-6' in
width.

Inside the main triangle, the lay is swept in
three clear blocks, clockwise. The outer rings are also swept
clockwise, with the shorter crossing paths alternating flow in
outwards and inwards directions. The lay is neat, if unremarkable.
However, at the centre of the formation, and
then also a few feet to the north-east, there are two large patches
of white dust laying liberally on the crop and on the soil beneath
it. The powder appears to be very fine, like chalk dust, but has no
scent nor taste (I am still alive to tell the tale) and thus does not
appear to be talcum, salt or flour. We have taken samples for
analysis, once we decide who best to send them to.

This formation lies on almost exactly the same
spot as the 1993 'kebab' formation (which gained notoriety by
continually growing), and the old Iron Age hill-fort of Cissbury
Ring, an important earth energy centre according to dowsers,
overlooks the field from the west.
