POYNINGS, WEST SUSSEX, 15 AUGUST 2002

Report by ANDY THOMAS of Southern Circular Research

Brought to light by a live report from the traffic helicopter of radio station Southern FM, the DJs reported this formation as being at Devil's Dyke, but in fact it lies at Poynings, about a mile north-east of the main Dyke car park.  It is just visible from there, but binoculars are recommended.
The pattern resembles three interlinked sickle-shapes made from standing elements within a circle.    THIS DESIGN IS MAN-MADE.

When Allan Brown and I arrived at the farm to investigate the appearance, there was a crane/lifting device next to the field and diagrams of the formation pinned to barns nearby, with the cryptic name 'JUNKZ2' beneath it.  We were then informed that the crop pattern was made for use in a pop video, although the farm staff were not allowed to tell us any more!  We presume that JUNKZ2 is the name of the act, but that is supposition.

The formation, at 202' diameter, though impressive in its ambition and scale, did show clearly man-made traits inside.  There was a generally messy lay and little care in the lay directions, and notable breakage and crimps on the stems.  Other qualities were consistent with the crop having been laid with some kind of board device.   It will be interesting to see if and when this formation turns up on television as a backdrop to the latest pop or drum 'n' bass delight!  Certainly, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first commercial crop circle to be commissioned on Sussex land.  Why this farm was chosen is unknown.

SU 042 613 - Etchilhampton, North of Chalk Pit on Map

3 Circles just next door to the building by the road on the way to 1031 formation. Two appear like the Moon and the Earth I felt. The other a little further along the tramline. The moon a single circle on its own with the Earth. Quite small and easy to get to, and they take you to the other formation. This might be the confusion with the 2nd Square formation. I had that confusion thinking I had seen a new formation, which wasn't even there in my case, earlier on in the year. The 2nd one which is the 1st can be seen from here.

Craig Malcolm and family tell me there are 2 crop circles, which appeared  last night 12th Aug 2002  between Bonnybridge and Falkirk, Scotland. One a  thirty foot circle and one looks like a horse shoe shape. Craig says there is no evidence of humans around the circles, just pristine crop. They will probably be gone in the next two days. He has video footage and  wants to know what to do next?

We're surprised that you have no report of the crop circle near Coate. The field is located on the right hand side of the road from Coate to Etchilhampton. You can see it from up the hill. It was reported on July 27th. We visited this formation in the afternoon and it consists of the numbers 1, then a sun-shaped circle of 15 rays and then the numbers 3 and 1. We have ground-shots of it. The edges were really sharp and the lay was very neat! There should be 2 other formations in the same field.

Coming in to land at Heathrow a few days ago I noticed a simple dumbell
formation; one large circle, one small, just outside the airport. Unless
I'm  mistaken, it's not on the ccc website. Have you heard of it?
Just thought I'd let you know.

A new little formation just next to the one at Normanton Barrows near Stonehenge. Near the little hill you pass, as you enter the field to see the large formation.

A circle 23 feet in diameter with a straight appendage 7 feet long, from the circle a connecting path 20 feet (facing 120 degrees), a lopsided oval varying between 10-13 feet in diameter, a connecting path 20 feet (facing 115 degrees), and a circle 10 feet in diameter.

Due to the oval's irregularity on one side and the sloppy form of the appendage, it's surely manmade. Reported 24th July.
