CROP CIRCLE RUMOURS 2001 (9 formations) Updated Saturday 18th August 2001 kexbrough, nr Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Reported 10th August. Location: (On the left as you approach Kexborough from the M1) Garsington, nr Oxford, Oxfordshire. Reported 1st August. Location: Garsington / both very near to the Michael current which passes through Marlborough, Wiltshire. Reported 28th July. Location: Marlborough Rochester, nr Chatham, Kent. Reported 24th July. Location: Visible from A roads above the new M2 road bridge workings near Rochester - seen from the Chatham side of the river looking across the bridges and was in a field on the other side near the top of the hill - spotted while driving past last night but could not stop to look Map: don't know!! (unhelpful I know) UPDATE: The other Medway circle reported on 24 July. Separate scouting by both a Medway Crop Circle member and myself were unsuccessful in locating this formation. Our guess is that the Wouldham circle near the A2 bridge which has already been reported earlier in July, was perhaps seen from another angle. If the original correspondent could be a little more specific about location, then we could investigate further. Report by Andrew King. Beddingham , nr Newhaven, East Sussex. Reported 21st July. Field Report The formation is located in a field just south of Beddingham,
off the A26, on
the west side of the road, opposite a lay-by and on a bend in the road. The
ancient hill fort of Mount Caburn overlooks the spot. UPDATE Incidentally, if you have heard reports of a formation at Beddingham, near Lewes, closer inspection has revealed this simply to be a patch where crop hasn't been sown for some reason (quite different to Moulsecoomb). Field Report by ANDY THOMAS Southern Circular Research & Swirled News
There is a crop circle in Sussex, It is about half way down the A26 between Beddingham and Newhaven on the west side, quite close to the road. Seems to be made of a triangle with the top lopped off with a couple of key like things down one side. First saw it on Monday 16th July. It has the crop pulled up in the same manner as the other Sussex formation mentioned on Crop Circle Connector. David Staveley (SCHWA) -- Sussex Archaeology & Folklore Langrish, nr West Meon, Hampshire. Reported 1st July.
Location: Just beyond Langrish on the Langrish to West Meon road. coming from
Petersfield go left towards East/West Meon and just beyond the first turning on
the left on this road look up to the left or 10 o-clock into a field of wheat (I
think) just before the sharp corner and hill. Hope that makes sense. The Location is South of East Meon, Hampshire. The Crop is
in Oats and the description is a Double ring circle, similar to that at Old
Winchester Hill, but smaller. I only found this from stopping in the gateway. It
can be found if traveling from East Meon village towards HMS Mercury in a field
on the left hand side of the road between Lower farm and the top of the hill. It
is not visible at all from the road. Discovery: 1 July 2001 Location: Just beyond East Meon heading towards West Meon on the
right-hand side of the road. Having just visited a crop formation at Langrish near Petersfield Hampshire, I decided to scout
the area to see if I could locate anymore. In doing so I have found two further formations in the
same style as that at Langrish. The first is located at Henwood, East Meon and I am told that
it is the same field as a formation from 1999. The second is near HMS Mercury in a field of oats between HHS Mercury and Lower Farm. This is only visible from the footpath at the top of
the hill and I have not entered this as I do not know which farmer owns this field. Mill Hill, nr Shoreham-by-Sea, W Sussex. Reported 8th July. Image Andy Thomas Copyright 2001 The Location of the Crop Circle formation is East of the Southern-most Report by ANDY THOMAS of Southern Circular Research Following John Cole’s report that a formation had appeared at this old Sussex circle haunt, investigations revealed a crude comma-shape, about 30-40’ approximate diameter, like a squashed circle with a long pointed tail on its western side. This
formation, or patch as it might be better described, is highly likely to be rook
damage as there is no discernible swirl, just a mess of low headless crop
(nothing like the Birling Gap formations of 1994, incidentally, which some
alleged were the work of birds). Rooks
were nibbling away inside when I investigated.
A similar but much smaller patch lies two hundred feet or so to the
north, confirming this suspicion. There
were ‘proper’ crop formations in the adjacent field to the south in 1990,
1993, 1995 and 1999, but this is totally dissimilar to any of those and probably
not worthy of further investigation. Looking
east, the patch can be seen clearly from the road which runs from Shoreham, past
Mill Hill and up to Truleigh Hill. (Thanks to John Cole for his initial report.) Field Report by ANDY THOMAS Southern Circular Research & Swirled News
Drove up to Mill Hill near Shoreham to check out formation that you have reported as a rumour on the site. Click on thumbnail to enlarge Image Melanie Gambrill Copyright 2001 It is located in the second field of barley along the Mill Hill road, north of the A27, east of the Shoreham flyover. It is visible from the second car park on your left along this road. The field is next to a field where we have had a formation in the past (1999 I believe). The shape of the formation is reminiscent of the Cherhill formation of April 2000 but without the triangle shape inside. We did not feel drawn to go inside. Attached is the best photo I could get of it in the fading evening light. Report by Melanie Gambrill and Lyn Collin |
