Kent's 4th formation is a beautifully etched figure of 8 lying on a gentle hill-side, close to the village of Shoreham.  It's around a mile or so from Lullingstone Castle, and only a stone's throw from a hill-side cross, which was cut into the chalk as a local memorial to those lost during the First World War.  This is the second occasion that one has appeared close to a chalk cross (Lenham, near Maidstone, Kent, on the same date in August, would you believe - Aug. 19th 1999!).

The lay is extremely complicated.  A sense of water running over rocks, wouldn't be a bad description of it, because it simply flows.  The way it intricately fans and feathers out is certainly state of the art, and we have a couple of exquisite sculptured nests that have been thrown in for good measure.

It's unlikely now that an aerial view will be taken for many reasons, one of which is that the Grim Reaper is in the area, so I have included a preliminary sketch which may not be entirely accurate.
