Thanks to CircleSpeak Productions, I was able to shot aerial
video footage of the Pewsey circle this afternoon. Here's a
"postcard" showing it in perspective and looking straight down
at it.

I used PhotoShop to tweak the color and contrast (the light was
overcast), but did not doctor the picture to remove walk lines
or anything. The gross walk line, which doesn't quite go into
the circle, was not there yesterday.

FIELD REPORT

PATHWAY TO PEWSEY’S CIRCLE

This small circle located very close to the slopes of the Pewsey White Horse, was the first official crop circle in Wiltshire this year. We certainly weren’t surprised to find the circle formed in Oil Seed Rape, as this is currently the best crop for events at this time. However, the Rape is at different stages of growth throughout Wiltshire, which is also the case for the Wheat and Barley. It’s very much a mix bag out there, as certain Farmers have obviously sown at different times. This will have a bearing on the amount of formations which will form at the end of May and the beginning June. The Barley itself, is growing extremely rapidly, and those wonderful whispering heads are starting to develop. Always a good sign!

Returning to the single circle at Pewsey, its location within the field, is in the far corner on the far right, (as you view it from the field). There is a footpath, which runs directly up to the field, and stretches back towards the town of Pewsey. The locals told us, that the path was reopened on the 25th May, which allowed us to get very close to the circle itself. Its appearance was rather ragged, but Oil Seed Rape has that effect on formations, but without having access to the circle, it is difficult to comment. However, from the aerial shots, kindly submitted by Peter Sorensen, we can see that the centre of the circle has two unusual patches of Earth. This could possibly indicate it has two centers perhaps, as the spiraled crop is slightly off to one side. The small patches just outside of the circle are very difficult to comment on, but they could be two grapeshot circles? Hopefully we can confirm this.

One final point, this particular field is the same one, as a formation that appeared last year, with the very unusual offset centers. Perhaps the same feature has appeared again?

On a sunny afternoon on Bank Holiday Monday (May28th) we finally had access to walk the long footpath towards the Oils Seed Rape single circle at Pewsey’s White Horse. In fact, the footpath is directly inline with the Horse on the escarpment, almost like a precession way, for the initiated.

Due to the Foot and Mouth restrictions, we still do not have access to the field itself, but fortunately, the circle is quite close to the field boundary, so we were allowed to take shots from the side of the field. It gave two opportunities on this day, as this was the first time, we had the opportunity to use our new equipment for the 2001 season. This is the ability to view what the camcorder records twenty feet up, from the ground. They are a specially adapted pair of monitor glasses, with a tiny monitor located at the front, and are the same weight as a large pair of sunglasses. It was an exciting moment, but also we had a camera crew with us, to record an interview, and to film us in action! We will have to fine-tune the whole processes of viewing from the ground, but we learnt a lot on that day, for the future. This technique will allow us to edit our shots actually onsite, so not to use too much film in one day, but to also improve the ability to capture the crop circles in the landscape. Its an exciting time for the team at The Crop Circle Connector!
