Reconstruction of the 2001 Old Shaw Village formation | ||
1.
Draw a circle.
2.
Draw 16 rays, evenly distributed around circle 1. The formation has 8-fold symmetry. First, one eighth segment is reconstructed (except for the concentric circles), and only near the end, all relevant parts are copied and distributed.
3.
Construct a circle tangent to circle 1 at the inner side on the right, and tangent to the two shown rays, the second above and the second below the horizontal centerline on the right.
4.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 3 at the near side.
5.
Construct the inscribed square of circle 4.
6.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the intersections of square 5 and every second ray, starting at ray "1" (the one above the horizontal centerline on the right).
7.
Draw the connecting line between the intersections of circle 6 and rays "1" and "7".
8.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 7.
9.
Copy circle 6 to the end-point of the horizontal centerline on the right.
10.
Copy circle 4 to the intersection on the left of circle 9 and the horizontal centerline.
11.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 10 at the far side.
12.
Extend all rays up to circle 11.
13.
Copy circle 8 to the center of circle 10.
14.
Construct two lines from the center of circle 1, tangent to circle 13 on both sides. Extend both lines up to circle 11.
15.
Construct a circle centered at the intersection of the horizontal centerline and circle 11, passing through the intersections of the latter with lines 12.
16.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the upper right intersection of ray "1" and circle 3.
17.
Draw the connecting line between the intersections of circle 16 and rays "1" and "7".
18.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 17.
19.
Copy circle 8 to the intersection of circle 18 and ray "1".
20.
Draw two lines from the end-point of ray "1" (its intersection with circle 11), tangent to circle 19 on both sides. Extend both lines up to circle 1 (on the opposite side).
21.
Construct a circle centered at the intersection of circle 18 and ray "9", tangent to both lines 20.
22.
Copy circle 21 to the center of circle 15.
23.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 22 at the near side.
24.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, passing through the center of circle 13.
25.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to circle 13 at the near side.
26.
Construct the inscribed square of circle 11.
27.
Construct the inscribed circle of square 26.
28.
Construct the circumscribed 16-sided regular polygon of circle 1, pointing up.
29.
Construct the inscribed square of polygon 28, such that angular points of both coincide.
30.
Construct the inscribed circle of square 29.
31.
Construct the inscribed square of circle 24.
32.
Construct the inscribed circle of square 31.
33.
Copy circle 1 to its intersection with the horizontal centerline on the right.
34.
Draw the connecting line between the intersections of circles 1 and 33 (the perpendicular bisector of the right half of the horizontal centerline of circle 1).
35.
Construct a circle concentric to circle 1, tangent to line 34.
36.
Construct six circles, all tangent to both lines 20, centered at the intersections of ray "1" and circles 35, 32, 30, 25, 16 and 23, respectively.
37.
Construct three circles, all tangent to both lines 14, centered at the intersections of the horizontal centerline on the right and circles 35, 32 and 27, respectively.
38.
Copy the fifth circle 36, the one centered at circle 16, to the opposite, the intersection of the latter with ray "9".
39.
Draw two lines tangent to both (corresponding) sides of both circles, circle 38 and fifth circle 36 (see inset for details).
40.
Trim away all parts of lines 39, except the upper right parts between circles 4 and 18.
41.
Trim away from circle 3, the part on the right between both tangent points (on the rays).
42.
Circles 13, 15, 19, 22, circle sets 36 and 37, lines 40 and arc 41 together form the parts of one eighth segment of the pattern.
43.
Copy all parts mentioned in step 42 seven times and distribute them evenly around circle 1. Together with circles 1, 4, 6 and 8, these form all necessary parts for the reconstruction.
44.
Trimming away all superfluous parts, and making black areas corresponding to standing crop, finishes the reconstruction of the 2001 Old Shaw Village formation.
