Reconstruction of the 2001 Hurn formation | ||
| 1. | ![]() |
Draw a circle; this will form the outer circle of the formation. Draw the horizontal and vertical centerlines. |
| 2. | ![]() |
Construct a regular heptagon (7-sided polygon), inscribed in this circle, with one angular point at the right end of the horizontal centerline. |
| 3. | ![]() |
Draw the rays from the center of the circle to the angular points of the heptagon. |
| 4. | ![]() |
Draw the rays positioned in between rays 3, intersecting the sides of the heptagon at their midpoints. |
| 5. | ![]() |
Construct the inscribed circle of heptagon 2. It will form the inner circle of the outer ring of the formation. |
| 6. | ![]() |
Construct another heptagon, parallel to heptagon 2, inscribed in circle 5. |
| 7. | ![]() |
Construct again an inscribed circle, this time of heptagon 6. |
| 8. | ![]() |
Draw a line from intersections of this circle with rays five apart, as shown. |
| 9. | ![]() |
Construct a circle, concentric to the previous ones, tangent to line 8. It will form the outer circle of the inner rings of the formation. |
| 10. | ![]() |
Draw a line from intersections of this circle with rays three apart, as shown. |
| 11. | ![]() |
Again, construct a circle, concentric to the previous ones, tangent to line 10. It will form the middle circle of the inner rings. |
| 12. | ![]() |
Draw a line from intersections of circles 7 and 9 with rays six apart, as shown. |
| 13. | ![]() |
Construct a third circle concentric to the previous ones, tangent to line 12. It forms the inner circle of the inner rings. |
| 14. | ![]() |
Construct a circle with its center at the intersection of a ray and circle 7, and tangent to the rays next to it, as shown. (By the way, this circle has exactly the same size as circle 9). |
| 15. | ![]() |
Draw a line from the intersections of this circle with circle 5, as shown. |
| 16. | ![]() |
Copy a circle 14 with its center at the intersection of this line and the same ray (as circle 14). |
| 17. | ![]() |
Repeat this another six times for every other ray (up to a total of seven). |
| 18. | ![]() |
Leaving out all unused parts yields the reconstruction of the 2001 Hurn formation. (Black denotes flattened crop). |
| 19. | ![]() |
