Perched on a hillside overlooking the Medway Valley, a beautiful tri-armed circular formation was discovered in a field of young barley on 25th June.  Clearly seen from the M2 motorway bridge, over the River Medway, it occupies the same field (in an almost identical position to a formation that came down on 27th July 1999).  Unfortunately, on that occasion, because the farmer was of the opinion "They're all made by mindless hooligans!", he swiftly cut it out.  We must hope that he doesn't decide to do that again or at least not until we have the aerial shot or permission to visit (which we feel is perhaps unlikely).

This formation couldn't be placed nearer to Rochester-upon-Medway, if it tried, and will be viewed by many as they speed along the motorway.  (Is that attention-seeking or what?)

It should also be mentioned that the field is next to the Old Pilgrims Way, and further towards the top of the field lies a tumulus, hidden within the woodland.

Hopefully, further information may be available later.

UPDATE

Diagram Graham Tucker Copyright 2001

This crisp 3-fold has geometrically revealed that it's well intone with many others that have landed so far this season.  Convex triangles are featured once again with heraldic shield-shape lines (see diagram).

Within the laid crop some interesting plant anomalies were discovered.  Some concentrated areas of the downed crop were found to have their leaves tightly wrapped around the stems in a spiral fashion, whilst the standing crop clearly remained unaffected.  Even more curious though, curly twists were found close to the seed heads at the top of some of the stems.

The field the formation occupies is bordered on two sides by ancient track ways.   The Pilgrims Way and the more recently named North Downs Way intermittently meander through much idyllic countryside, eastwards to Canterbury or westwards to Winchester.  My research has uncovered that the vast majority of the Kent formations over the years appear close to these tracks, which does make life easier when you're looking out for them!

We now have what seems to be Kent's first formation. It is located in Borstal nr. Rochester in the same field (next to the channel tunnels rail link) as one appeared in in 1999. It is a ring with three lines of circles radiating from the centre circle, and measures 154 ft across in barley. Graham Tucker will do a field report with a diagram and pictures tomorrow. We will also contact Andrew King for an over head shot. I must stress if anyone wants to visit the formation please get the farmers permission first.

Reported by Ann Pedersen ( Medway Crop Circle).

This formation was in long-eared wheat , on chalk. The crop just or less than 2ft high., in the exact same location that the complex 'triple buddha' formation was in in 1999. Unfortunately this farmer was downright aggressive then - so there is little probability that he is any more compliant now. The formation came down on Sunday, 24/6, night.

UPDATE

Just a little update on the Borstal formation. Evidently it was not there in the early morning - i.e. about 7-8am, but was seen in the evening when the person returned from work. While it is possible that it may have been too misty for the formation to have been easily visible in the morning, I understand that the person concerned was in the habit of deliberately looking out for formation is that particular field when he went to work each morning. The Medway News will be running an article on the formation - due out on Tuesday - I gave some details and background to the reporter and permission to use the photo posted on the Connector.

Reported by Andrew King.
