LINE OF CIRCLES DELIGHT AT WINDMILL Click on thumbnail to enlarge. The ancient settlement of Windmill Hill, has been a major target for the Circlemakers in 2000, and has used the same field as the 1996 Julia Set (one of the most celebrated formations) which captured peoples imagination. Windmill Hill 1996 These rather unimpressive sets of 14 circles (from the air) are extremely interesting from the ground. ‘On closer inspection, the circle was creating a ratchet feature, with stepped sections of crop’ The main circle, which is situated on the gentle slopes of Windmill Hill, has a most unusual floor pattern. It was flowing in a clockwise rotation, but there were a number of standing parts (plants) within the floor lay. These plants were completely unaffected by the circle making force, because if you applied any pressure to flatten them, they would hold their position. This wasn’t the only oddity within this circle, as the sides around the perimeter appeared to be highly irregular. On closer inspection, the circle was creating a ratchet feature, with stepped sections of crop. Click on thumbnail to enlarge. |
Many of the standing plants in the main circle, created a pattern all by themselves, but this may not have been the purpose, but perhaps just the after effect? But the feature was very unusual, because the crop was acting as if it wanted to leave certain plants standing. ‘It took a
lot of skill to carefully place your footing between growing crop’ The other 13 circles, situated in a ragged tail placed in between tramlines, were all very much smaller in size, to the head circle. These smaller circles were however fairly neat in appearance, but there was no evidence of any entry into these small grapeshot circles. Located almost exactly halfway between two tramlines, they remained remote to the onlooker. It took a lot of skill to carefully place your footing between growing crop. The most interesting cluster of circles, was what everyone is calling the ‘Tail’ on the formation. There were seven circles all placed side by side (joining) to create an arrowhead appearance. Every circle was flowing in a clockwise rotation with small standing tufts in the middle, but they weren’t the neatest of circles I have seen. However, we all know at this time of year, the crop is extremely ripe, which can create messy looking floor patterns. THE BEAST OF AVEBURY This may not be crop circle related, but I felt I had to tell everyone what I saw. While I was walking up the rather rough track towards the field in question, I had to walk along the side of the field, as the track led up to Windmill Hill. As I entered the clearing, I spotted what looked like a small cat. It was slightly larger than a normal domestic cat, with white tufts on the top of its ears. It looked at me, and then sprinted away up the track, and then stopped again to turn around. It then carried on towards Windmill Hill, but I finally lost sight of it within the hedgerow. There was no way this was a normal domestic cat, but perhaps some wild creature, of the cat family? Very strange sighting, but this is not the first time a creature of this type has been seen! Just the other night Frank Laumen was describing his experience as he drove down the Avebury Avenue towards the A4. He was driving past the Stones on his right, when suddenly this huge cat ran out from the avenue into a track on the other side. It was the size of a panther of Jaguar, but he swears it was certainly no dog, or domestic cat. So there we have it, perhaps the Avebury area, has other mysteries lurking in the fields?
