Looking out across the Stone Circle towards Avebury Down in a north easterly direction, you will catch sight of the next rather impressive formation to appear in the area.

This very large formation, is positioned in an area, which is not frequently used by the phenomenon. A number of  past formations have appeared very close to the henge in 1994 and 1998 respectively, but this latest design is in more of a remote location away from the hustle and bustle of tourism that hits Avebury in the summer months.

Its location is not far from the dumbbell formation just along the way opposite the stone avenue. The pattern is very similar to the pickled hill formation, which formed a few days earlier. But this design was not as elaborate as its more impressive contemporary, or as well constructed. This was very curious, because they both have the same characteristics, but the outer ring on this formation at Avebury Down has a more ragged appearance. However, the outer circles, placed on the outside of the ring, were very well constructed. Some wonderful splayed centres, with bunched sections of crop, following in unison with their directional flow.

The three Vesica Pisces designs, producing the central interest, were all flowing in two directions. However, the crop turns to run the other way, down the entire centre of each pattern.

We have discussed in previous reports this season, details from the earlier 90’s formations. The Avebury Down formation is no exception, as the middle Vesica Pisces are very similar to the dolphin designs we all visited in 1991. The way the crop was laid is very reminiscent of those times, and indeed, could be a link to those earlier formations?

Once again, a pattern to make us all ponder over how the season will progress. The Circlemakers are pushing us in all directions with regard to varied designs appearing, but I feel in the correct direction with circles!
