FIELD REPORT

Update  on  the  Riccall  Grange  Formation - henceforth  termed  The  Vortex  Array.  Following  its  discovery  on  the  Escrick Park  Estate on  Monday   the   21st June ,  this  has  caused  a  local  stir.  I  visited  the  formation,  some  10  miles  south  of  York  on  the  A19  road  to  Selby, on  the   30th  June.  The  formation  formed  in  a  field  of  barley  around  3ft  high  some  200yds.  from  the  main estate house  and industrial  units.  No  one  saw  anything relating  to  its  appearance.  The  location is  a  mile  or  so  from  ancient  tumuli.  The  underlying  geological  structure  is  coal (the  Selby  Coalfield).  It  is  located  some  2  miles  from  the  River  Ouse.  No detailed  underground  water  measurements  were  taken.

The  formation  sits  neatly  within  the  crossover  of  two  main  energy  lines  running  truly  north-south/east-west.  The  direction  of  the  energy  flow  is  `driving  on  the  left`, i.e  the prediction  of    crop  flow  in  all  circles should be and  proved  to be clockwise.  The crop  lay  was untidy  but  not  out  of  the  ordinary.  Circles  nearer  the  centre  of  the  formation  showed  much  neater  flow, with  a  characteristic  uneven/asymmetric flow  across  their  diameters. Seed  heads  neatly  lined  up  pointed  towards  the  centre of  each  circle  on  the  east  side  and  outwards  on  their  west  sides. There  was  a  distinctive heavier  flattening  in  their  centres  and  bunching  up  towards  their edges.  This  division  of  flow  showed  a  distinct  two section forming  process,  consistent  with  the  underlying dominant  toroidal  flow and  associated six-fold  geometry  of  the  total  pattern. Large circles in  the  centre square  were 90 ins  diameter, the  larger ones being  190  ins. Patterns  of these  larger  circles  were  pinned to  the  smaller  circles  which  dictated  their  overall shape,  again confirming  the  toroidal  nature  of  the creative  forces. Diameter of  the overall  formation  was  265ft.  The square in  the  outer  circle is  aligned  precisely  north -south/ east-west.  The  smaller  circles  form  a  very  exact  array,  found  commonly  in Nature  creating  a
six fold  geometry  pattern.  A  comparable situation  in  Physics  is  in the magnetic  penetration  of  flux  lines  in  a  Type  II  Superconductor.  Recent  theoretical work  on  subtle  energy  flow  has  already  highlighted this  connection  and  it  was  pleasing  to  see  this  feature  confirmed  in  the  fields. This pattern  therefore christens  the formation- The  Vortex  Array.  The  number  of  row/columns of  small  circles  are  Fibanacci  numbers  8,13  and  therefore  display  a  neat  way  of  combining  five-fold  geometry  within  the  pattern.  The  presence  of  the  large  square means  of  course  four-fold  geometry  and  hence for  once  we  have  4,5 & 6 fold patterns  intertwined - a unique  feature.

There  was  no  dowsable  spider's  web  pattern  in  any  of  the  inner  circles,  though the  larger  enveloping  circle  bore  rings  of  6 ft  separations,  alternating  classically clockwise and  anti-clockwise.

Bottled  mineral  water  left  for  2  hours  in  the  formation  increased  its  aura by  over seven  fold,  indicating  the classic  absorption  process  associated  with  subtle  energy  flow on  water. No  loss  of  battery  voltage  was  noted.  A  colleague  suffered  head  aches while  in  the  formation  which  rapidly  disappeared  once  away  from  the  formation.

Energy  absorption  on  the  seed  heads  was  measured  on  numerous  samples throughout  the  formation  with  a  classic  `marquee`  shape  distribution  occurring consistently  on  all  circles  sampled.  Detailed  analysis is  to  be  carried  out  on  samples taken.  Laboratory  test  for  nitrogen/nitrate  distribution  changes  are  being  carried  out and should  be  available  within  a  fortnight.

While  much  work  remains  to  be  done,  the  formation  met all  relevant  established criteria  for  geophysical  formations  and  to date  is  the  largest  and  most  complex pattern  yet  to  appear  in  Yorkshire.

Crop circle mystery near the A19
by Simon Ritchie

Can you decipher the crop circle code?

This baffling creation was carved out of a barley field on the Escrick Park Estate which is just off the A19 York to Selby road near Riccall. Look at it one way and the figure 80 appears, turn it round and a strange face is visible!  But who or what created it? Is it the work of aliens, pranksters, wind or highly-intelligent rabbits? It was discovered on Monday the day of the summer solstice. Charles Forbes Adam, who runs the estate, said: "It's all very weird. I don't know what to think of it. It's funny that it happened on the summer solstice and during Glastonbury festival week. We have leased out 22 units on the estate to businesses, so it could be some extraterrestrials who want to move here," he joked.

An estate spokeswoman said: "It just appeared from nowhere on Monday morning. We have no idea who has done it. We are trying to figure out what it all means." Geoff Eastwood, of Skipwith, who farms the land, first noticed it while flying over his fields.

"It's all very strange. I'm no great believer in aliens so I think it must be the work of hoaxers. "This is the first crop circle I've ever had in my fields, but I'll be keeping my eyes open for any more."

It is the latest crop circle to be created near York in recent years. Last year several circles were found near the agricultural college at Askham Bryan.

I paced the diameter of the circle right through the middle of everything.   It is about 220-250 feet across I think. It is  just down the A19 from York, about half a mile from the main A19 road and I think it appeared on the solstice, 21st June but I guess it may have been there Sunday. I never noticed it when walking my dogs on Sunday though. It is quite clear from the track.
