Malborough, nr Salcombe, Devon. Reported 9th August

I saw this formation while making my way down to Salcombe in Devon the day
before the eclipse (August 10th). The formation itself was placed in a field adjacent to a campsite on a nearby
farm called Ashton or Alton Farm.. |

I didn't enter the formation (prominent "keep out" sign on the gate) but I would guess it was in the region of 250ft across. Hard to tell what the design was but it certainly looked somewhat "eclipse inspired", and its location would have placed it in the path of totality. No sign of access to the formation, but oddly enough there was some very heavily trampled "tracks" running diagonally straight across the field... but notably not intersecting the formation. I've never really seen this before in a field, but I presume caused by animals? While there I was told that a number of helicopters had hovered over it the following day
presumably for a look or maybe even taking pictures. I know there is/was a nearby heliport on the coast that was doing pleasure flights so I guess
its possible the helicopter may have been from there. |
